Delicious RTD Protein Shake and almost a Candy Bar
I went on a quest last week for a better tasting RTD protein shake that I could drink every day. I was liking the premiere protein shakes but they tasted very metalic to me and after finishing a case of them I needed a break. So I went to my local Vitamin Shoppe where they have single RTD protein shakes in their cooler case. I bought one of everything that fit my nutrition profile (i.e. over 30 grams of protein, low carb, etc.). I found several and they none of them were terrible. The hands down winner though was Ultimate Flurry. They have two flavors Chocolate and Cookies and Cream, both of which are outstanding. Hopefully their label does not lie because they taste like you are breaking the VSG law. They are low carb (4gm total 2 net). They are a bit high on the calories (220) but well worth it because they are filling. Oh did I mention they are freaking delicious? Here is a link to them, you can get them at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe as well as several places online:

The same company makes some tasty protein bars but they are higher in carbs than I like. I had one over the weekend where I ate half each day so it fit into my program.
I also added the Atkins Endulge Peanut Caramel Cluster Bar. I am not sure how they got this thing to taste so good but it satisfied the candy craving I was having yesterday. Its not great but for a once in a while treat it fit nicely into my program, particularly since that day I was WAY low on carbs. They have 12g carbs total but a net carbs of 1. I don't do the net carb thing but I know some people do. At 140 calories they wouldn't fit into my plan every day but it was a nice treat. They only have 8 grams of protein so it is not something that I would include regularly.
Two delicious items added to my diet.
I have another Atkins rec for you. It's Atkins Day Break, chocolate hazelnut bar. It's so damn good, taste just like a rich candy bar. They are 180 cals, 3 net carbs (18 ttl, fiber 7, and sugar alcohol 8), 14 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein. So it's definitely not the greatest stats, not even close to something we should have every day, but half once and a while and you feel like you're eating See's candy:).
I have always been a hater of RTD's but then several weeks ago all of a sudden my body would not do the mixes anymore. Some bad side effects I won't mention. Anyway I have been drinking the Premier and liking them. I will try your approach of taste testing. I think our bodies and tasters are in constant change mode.
Wanted to share a recipe with you for Macaroons I made yesterday, 30 cals ea without chocolate drizzle. with a drizzle it would taste just like mounds bar.
4 egg whites
2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1 cup splenda
almond extract
Beat eggs till stiff. Fold in remainder of ingredients. Scoop 30 cookies and bake@ 325 for 16 minutes. YUUUUM.
Love macaroons - thanks:) Another thing I wish there was a good substitute for is meringues. They are just sugar and egg whites, and maybe vanilla, but I don't think the sugar substitutes work:(
