Not Only Our World-Extension of Elina's Post-Warning Carb Rich

Yeah, you know how I overcome it?  I don't make food that is not on my plan even for other people.  Sucks to be them.

No, seriously, I am lucky that Alan cooks for the kids and for parties.

I make reservations.  :)

On a serious note, I really think it would be hard to live in a household that required me to cook potatoes and stare at bread in my kitchen.  As it is, my kids are a bit deprived.  I mostly keep really healthy food in the house for all of us.

This is on my mind a lot, since I am the cook here (my husband was working from home last week to "help" and I, at 3 days post-op, was cooking dinner for him and the kids--something is wrong with this picture??).  Fortunately for me, we don't keep a lot of what I'd call "tempting" bread in the house--we typically have whole wheat silced bread for sandwiches, and I don't care much about it.  My kids hate mashed potatoes, yay for me.  But pasta and rice may be tricky.  As long as I can have vegetables instead, I think I'll be ok.

It's going to be interesting once I'm eating "real" food again to retool some of the favorites.  The good news is my husband is a carnivore and would be happy if I just served up hunks of meat every night, haha.

I fully agree! I just spent 12 days in Senegal where if you didn't eat bread for breakfast, rice for lunch and millet cous cous for dinner, you haven't eaten. Food is served in a common bowl/platter and everyone eats together so there is no making up a VSG friendly plate for yourself there. Talk about having to adapt! I managed to eat around the carbs and made my little space of protein and vegetables and I did great. Lost 5 lbs and was happily included with everyone around the bowl. Sure folks asked me about not eating a lot or not eating the rice but I managed to wiggle out of those conversations. It is doable and we do have to adapt to the world out there.
