nurses against wls surgery
I was just talking with a Nurse Practitioner yesterday, she was so proud of me for making the decision to have WLS. It all depends on who you talk to. Every person has their own opinion. In fact I'll bet many of those nurses you've talked with have never researched all the pro vs. cons of WLS. Just ignore them.
Well, just because they are nurses, it doesn't mean they know everything about everything medical.
I had a run in with a nurse who brought a dessert with nuts in it to sell at a concession stand I was running even though I said "No nuts" in the homemade baked goods due to allergies. She argued with me and argued with me and said "I"m a nurse!" as it that meant she wasn't being stupid and I had to listen to her.
I told her that since she was a nurse, she should know better. She didn't like that.
It turns out she was a nurse who had never worked in a clinical setting, but did paperwork for insurance companies!

I am also an RN and at my hospital so many of our staff having gotten WLS surgery or are in the process of trying to get it done. They are calling it the "nurse's surgery". One of our hospitalist had it done too. When I was a student nurse I worked on a floor that did WLS surgery. I didn't like the RNY and did not look into surgery till I heard about the sleeve. Yes there are complications to WLS surgery but there are complications to any surgery out there. A girl died from having her tonsils taken out at the surgery center that I had my EGD done. You just have to speak with patients from your doctors practice and check out the facility you are having surgery at. Its like buying a car you need to be informed!!!!
