I haven't really seen much about this posted here and I thought I would tell you what I have done, especially if you are not to far post op. Once the wounds heal (so that there is no risk of them breaking open) mine where after about 2 weeks or so, you can start this process.

My goal is to have minimally visible scars after a year. I thought about having a plastics guy do a revision on them when I get a tummy tuck, but I have made really good progress in two months.

You want to start as early as you can take it by placing the ball of your index finger on the scar and massaging in small circles. Do this while you are reading or watching tv. But just massage the scars and keep from allowing the collegen to build up (thats what makes them hard and worm like). If you already have thick scars the massaging will help but it will take longer. This will take a couple of weeks. Just keep doing it every day.

To reduce the appears of scars I have been using Mederma. This stuff is amazing. My scars are currently a very light pink and supposedly after about 6 months they will be barely visible. I will keep you all posted on that front. The bigger scars take longer. I have one that is a bit brighter than the others but so far I have managed to fade them from a bright red to a very light pink. I use Mederma about once a day.

One note about the Mederma - its EXXXPENSIVE.  I didn't need it for my lap scars - but I paint myself with it daily for my plastics scars.  There are several off name brands (I use the Kroger "Scar Care Cream") at half or less of Mederma's price.  I have also read of others making their own homepathic version (Mederma is basically onion oil, aloe, and garlic extracts).

Good tips. I don't remember the scar treatment being expensive but I honestly do not recall what I paid I thought it was like $12 and in 2 months I haven't finished the tube. I could be totally wrong about that though as I bought it with a bunch of other stuff. I do know the Mederma stretch mark stuff is expensive, its like $40+ for a small tube.

Have you tried any of the sillicon scar treatments? Mine are fading so nicely I haven't really considered it.

I wish we had Kroger down here, I miss it. We maybe moving to your neck of the woods soon. I love Nashville and my wife has family over in Jackson.

When you use it on a scar that goes circumferentially around your waist, through both groins, down the middle of your abdomen, and up the length of both legs - it goes quickly!  Around here Mederma goes for about 25 a tube.

I haven't tried the silicone ones.  My PS recommends mederma or the equivalent because it seems to work best for his patients.  It has really been helping with mine - my scars are just starting to come out of the angry red stage and I already have places where they are not very visible.  My plastics was just in October - sp pretty good.

That would be cool if you move to this area.  Let me know if it happens!

Damn you just made my sphincter clinch with that scar description. You could be right it might have been $25 I will have to check next time I am up there.

I did some research and Mederma seemed to come up the most as a successful treatment. I think the silicon is more if the scar has thickened and hardened.

Man I hope I don't need an LBL and can get away with just a tummy tuck. They do not sound fun, but giving what is going on between my legs its looking like LBL.

I will be up in Nashville in June for CMA Music Fest and then again in July for a family reunion for my wife's family. Maybe we can grab lunch or coffee one day.

I have been using scar guard - you  paint it on like nail polish. i'm already seeing results. the trick with this stuff if you have to apply it beyond the scar area so it doesn't peel off.
