Use your weight to your advantage

I have posted a couple of times on how strength training should not be ignored if you are trying to lose weight. Stronger muscles use more calories. Simple right? Yes. The biggest muscles to exercise on your body are your legs (thighs and butt), more specifically your quads, hamstrings, and glutes.

Squats are one of the best exercises to do these and you can do them right at home with no equipment. If you are early out just getting up from your couch is a good exercise to work these muscles. Get up and down 10 to 20 times during a commercial.

If you are farther out, do them right in your bedroom before you hop into the shower. I did 10 on Saturday and I am still a bit sore today. Its a great exercise, they are easy to do and the best part is if you are overweight enough to get VSG then you have enough weight in your body to give your legs and butt a great work out. The best part is you are working the biggest muscles in your body.

Guys, this is also a great and natural way to increase your testosterone levels which in turn lead to bigger, leaner muscles and a better sex life too.

I do these when I do a water workout on my own.  There is a ramp into the pool (LOL -- my kind of pool!), so I face "uphill" and do squats.  I do 100 -- the water supports your weight, so you can do more.

You would get a lot more out of it if you moved up out of the water and did 10 and work back up to 100. If you can do 100 in the water you should be able to do a couple out. The water supporting your weight sorta defeats the purpose. Plus you need a pool.

There's actually more resistance in the water, so it shouldn't defeat the purpose.  Plus it does support the aging joints.

My trainer suggested sitting & standing from a chair when I first had my surgery. Basically squatting into the chair. I do a regular squat now. Working on jump squats. I haven't perfected those yet.

My buddy is trying to get me to do bur pies. They make my eyes water watching someone do them.

Ugh...squats kill my knees!  I found just doing my Kinect dance games for XBox have really worked my arms though.  And I don't need to lift weights for that which is nice!

Keith you inspired me to get up during commercials.  Several times.  Cute things was they where playing a commercial about having enough time to exercise if you just do sit-ups during commercials.  I figured it was a sign!kiss

Ive found that due to misinformation and misconceptions about strength training that most folks on the weightloss wagon are as scared of weight training as they are of carbs..... a shame in both instances
