Scared of myself

I can hardly believe that surgery is on Tuesday. I have so many emotions swirling around in my head. I am scared, nervous, overwhelmed, and excited all at the same time. I have been doing the pre-op diet thing for 11 days now and I have really struggled with it. I cheated a little here and a little there and I have only lost 11 lbs, now I am starting to question myself. I know that I have will power to succeed; I was an avid mtn dew drinker prior to this and I haven’t had any pop in months and I was a smoker and I have quit for 5 months. But if I am having sooo much trouble with the pre op diet how am I going to handle myself after surgery? I am afraid that I am going to be hungry all the time and still want to eat all the time.

Has anyone felt like this prior to surgery and gone through with it? How are you feeling now, still hungry? How do you cope with not eating?

Hi Michelle, 11 pounds in 11 days is awesome!  Don't beat yourself up for cheating a few times, just get back on plan and stay the course.

I was told by another sleever that it will be easier after surgery, as I had the same worries.  I'm only 3 days post-op but it's true.  I'm just not hungry and I don't think the real restriction happens until week two or so as the nerves in our stomachs are still healing the first week.

Hang in there - it's so close :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement. and congratulations on your surgery. I am going to put all my effort into these last three days,  nothing but what I am supposed to do. I certainly don't want my surgeon to start the procedure and when i wake up have him tell me that he couldn't do it because I didn't stick to the diet. That would be the worst.

I am glad to hear that you are not hungry. If I don't feel hungry I don't think I will eat, that hasn't been my pattern anyway.

Thanks again!

Best of luck to you

You dear girl! You will be amazed at the lack of hunger after your procedure. I am 6 weeks out and still in shock that I lost my desire for Diet Coke. It is so weird to lose that desire to eat. The biggest challenge for me has been to ignore my brain and just listen to my sleeve. Eat till satisfied not full. Someone told me that today. Will be my mantra! Good luck to you!!!

I haven't had the sleeve yet but I can tell you everything you are feeling is totally normal. Life after the surgery will make it easier to do the diet required. If you can quit soda and cigarettes you can surely do this with the sleeve to help you! Just pre op jitters, very normal! Good luck, you'll do just fine!

I remember feeling scared before surgery but like I told myself -  what makes me or you different from the thousands of successful VSGers out there?  Nothing - that's what!  If they can do it , then so could I.  And here I am - just past 2 months out and I am doing it!  I wasn't sure if I could but I'm just rocking this sleeve And so will you.  Your confidence will increase day by day and when you look back you will be able to tell other pre-ops the same thing!

Regarding the cheating here and there - it's bound to happen at some point.  As long as you acknowledge your mistake then get back on track, you will be just fine!  No one is perfect 100% of the time!

I start my 2 week pre op regeme on thursday ... I'm scared to death of it to be honest.  why?  because i've done such a poor job on the pre pre op plan i set myself on.  I had hoped to drastically cut meal size and cut out all bread, rice, etc.  if anything i seem to have done the opposite (that's all i've been eating).  part of the reason is that i spent all my money on stuff for preop and postop food and am left with a bunch of stuff in cupboards i cant bare to trow out atm.  but also, i'm just stupid and feeling like i'm going to miss them, so better have them while i can.  not very productive!  i will have to work hard to not make excuses for myself next week onwards.

I've made relatively small changes over the past year.  no soda.  using equal for my coffee. using crystal lite and MIO instead of drinkign fruit juice during the day.  i know it's not enough though.  in for a big shock i know.  I think what needs to happen is to find something else to FULLY occupy your time.  make a list of little projects around the house etc.

I'm just on my second week post-op so I can just tell you my experience today. I had to run my computer to the Apple Store and of course I ended up having to wait 45 mins for it. I really didn't have the strength to shop at our mall where the Apple store is so I went and got a glass of tea at the food court to wait- of course at least 6 people approached me with samples- none appealed to me. As I sat there amid the pizza and other smells - I was amazed that I really wasn't hungry and was ok!! I had had a little bit of Greek yogurt for lunch.

No way this would have been possible before surgery- but I know that as I heal - those temptations will be there and I'll have to deal with stress eating & head hunger.

I couldn't diet pre-Op.  My surgeon did not require it and I had many Food Funerals.  I am struggling with hunger and head hunger now after surgery.

The pre-op diet is hard. Post-op has been easy for me, thankfully. I am never hungry, I could drink water all day long with no second thoughts. You will do great!
