I had the lap band and it was an awful 3.5 years of inconsistency and spending hours and hours at the doctors office waiting for fills and unfills only to have it removed in January.  Now I have to play the insurance game all over again to get approved for the sleeve.  Wish I had know about the sleeve back then.  I haven't met anyone who has truly been successful with the lap band and I know 2 besides myself who have revised from band to sleeve.  From the months and months of research and reading I have done on the sleeve I have found that most people are happy with the sleeve.  Of course there are moments of frustration with anything but it just seems that it is manageable frustration and that with that frustration they are seeing results.  With the lap band I was either so tight I couldn't swallow water or I could eat at a buffet.  There is so much maintenance required with the lap band as well.  I know I am bias but I am big on telling people not to do it because I have not only myself but several others who have had nothing but problems.  If you go with the sleeve then you don't have to deal with the insurance all over again if/when you revise.

Either way you will make whatever decision is comfortable for you and I wish you the best of luck either way.

My standard reply: Band = BAD, Sleeve = GOOD

(I have had both, and never got below 205 with the band...)

I would not recommend the band and yes I have the band currently have had it almost 4 years in August have probably lost at most 30lbs right now I have only lost 10 as of surgery date. You will need to go for constant adjustments which means they are going to stick a large bore needle through your skin into the port and add fluids. Hopefully it's not too much cause they will need to stick you again to remove it. I know people have had success with the band and it failed for other reasons like slippage, port flipped or some other crazy reason but for me it just isn't a great tool. I thought I was making a great decision when I got it but I was very wrong and this has been almost 4 years of hell. Running from the table cause food is stuck, pulling the car over to puke cause food is stuck and that's all if your trying to eat dense protein. Left radiating shoulder pain which I'm hearing could mean my diaphragm is dilated hurts like hell.

Check your insurance. Some only cover 1 WLS in a lifetime. if you do get the band, it will need to be replaced in 10 years. IF you don't have complications.

I researched and found the sleeve to be far superior. Obesity is not a temporary illness, you want a permanent solution that works.
