So..... I'm sitting at an airport Gas Station/Wendy's with a friends kid waiting for his dads plane to come in..... Original dinner plans messed up. The kid wanted Wendy's .... Cool, haven't had the Chili in a while.

Catching up a little on OH from my phone..... Seems a few posts on Sleeve sizes and restriction. Thought I'd give you a rundown of how a small sleeve 3.5 years out does when you 98% of the time under eat your sleeve capacity and preserve restriction.

Half of a small chili and two chicken nuggets...... Done....all good!....sitting in there fine......

What ever size sleeve you have.... Under eating is the key....learning to recognize satisfied .....eating till your full...... Bad news ....

I love that 'full" feeling....that Thanksgiving feeling...makes me feel warm and cozy and happy and relaxed...kinda like the high a drug addict must get...eyes glazed over.  So, now what?  Rhetorical question, I know....but...it is going to take a lot of work and mental willpower until I eat until "just satisfied". For me, FULL is satisfying!  I will miss that full feeling now that I need to give it up, in order to succeed.

Soooo..... You do know your in a room full of people that have, had or still do have issues with food and eating....

Thanksgiving seemed like everyday for me.... Dinner 2 for the evening was bigger than dinner one....

For me the post op full was never really the same. The only thing I can tell you is that it took about 6 months to get used to new normals.... Now it seems those old ways are just a distant memory. Satisfied feels pretty good. Taste and flavor are much more important to me than stuffed.

I'm really glad you posted this. I think I needed to hear it. Especially "Satisfied feels pretty good. Taste and flavor are much more important to me than stuffed.." Thank you.

Ha ha Frisco ;-) Yet, I thought I was terminally unique ;-)

I want to explore what you are saying about the full feeling being different post op.  I do kind of agree...it is, indeed, a weird uncomfortable feeling.  The problem is, while I am at "satisfied" with my eating -- when I get to that "satisfied' place --  it feels really good...so that I keep spooning in 5 more bites...becuase I want MORE.  MORE, MORE, MORE.  In my old, fatty brain, MORE IS BETTER.  Like many of us, I have the disease of MORE.  If one is good, two is better.  If three is good, seven is better...

Bare with me Frisco....I am trying, Good Buddy!

I agree with Frisco, full feeling post-op is definitely different than before surgery. I was like you, I loved that full feeling. It was an ahhhhhh, I'm satisfied, content kinda feeling. Not anymore - full for me now is uncomfortable, both physically and mentally (if that makes sense), and I do not want to feel full. AT ALL. I hate feeling full now.

When I first started eating normal foods after surgery, I remember at times actually being angry because I couldn't eat what I wanted in the portions I wanted....and that was a mental issue I knew I had to work through - I associated that mental satisfaction with the physical fullness that came after eating and that was a link I wanted to break.

I'm just so darned grateful for my sleeve, so thankful for the restriction.

Full does feel different and it is very easy to get an uncomfortable feeling on just a little bit of food. However, not full still feels the same....therein lies the dilema.

Frisco.,

have surgery date for DS scheduled for April 3rd in Frisco, TX with Dr. Daryl Stewart. Having doubts about having DS. Tell me more about your age and experience with VSG. It was the surgery I was considering at the beginning. I weight 255, am 5'2", 53 yrs old and have been morbidly obese for the last 16-17 years. I am hearing that it is heard to lose all weight with sleeve. I want to lose NO LESS than 130lbs. Tha is for telling me any and all you can.

Thanks so much!!

"I am hearing that it is heard to lose all weight with sleeve."

Are you hearing that from people who have the sleeve though? mail

I would never take advice on what it is like to have a surgery from someone who doesn't have that surgery. I get sick and tired of a certain group of DSers who run around telling everyone how having a sleeve is like being on a diet every day. I say "how the f' do you know what having a VSG is like?" YOU DON'T. It doesn't shut them up (because they've drunk the DS koolaid) but hopefully it makes other people think.

Btw, I know someone with a DS who only lost 30 pounds. It's not a magic wand that guarantees you will lose all your weight. You can eat around it just like any other surgery and there are people who have issues that it doesn't solve just like with every other surgery type.
