That's awesome!!! Im so lucky that I was just a healthy fat girl and didn't have any other medical issues, but I can imagine just how fantastic this must feel for you.

Keep it up and enjoy your new healthiness!

I think its wonderful that your A1C and fasting numbers must be normal now and you are probably off all diabetic meds now? This is also the same for me. I don't want to dampen happy spirits but please, for your own health, consider it as a remission. It could be a remission for the rest of your life which I sincerely hope will be the case, for me also...but once a diabetic, always a diabetic. It cannot be cured. There was already pancreatic damage and beta cells loss. This is as far as I know not reversible. If we keep our vigilance up, we have a chance to keep our diabetes in remission. How long for? We cannot predict this.

Actually, my doc said it depends on how long you were diabetic before your WLS.  He said if you are only a year or two out, they may be able to CURE the diabetes (I am sure it depends on how much damage was done before).

That would be amazingly awesome. How do they determine this? Do you know what tests can be done? I was only a diabetic about two years before surgery. Would love to find out if I am cured!? That would be cause for celebration.

I'm still pre-op, but at my eval that is what my surgeon told me...I will try & remember to ask him when I see him next week for my last pre-op visit.  I was surprised too because I thought it was like being an alcoholic, you know, once you're diagnosed you're one for life!  I will post again, though, once I talk to him again!

If you set the same  Stage, you will get out of "remission".  Unfortunately, once a diabetic, always a Diabetic.  Just continue to take care of yourself like one. I've never had diabetes but have an Extremely strong family history.  Basically diabetes took both my parents (They were not obese).  So I care for myself/take precautions like I am diabetic since age 20.  Like no Table sugar, SF everything.  Moving around - walking like crazy etc. After eating.

I am glad you are doing so well.

God bless,

Layla
