I was talking to my NUT today. I asked about sewing double over suture/staple line. She said a new instrument was made just for us...it cuts, staples and sews atonce...anyone familiar with this??8

there was staple gun made just for bariatric surgeries. it does cut cauterize and staple in one series. I am pretty sure it does not over sew cause I would think oversewing would have to be done by hand with a needle and suture. Some surgeons do in fact over sew after using the first tool, some do not. You would prolly get better info about that from the surgeon him or herself than from the NUT.

If you go to you tube and watch a vsg surgery you will see how this instrument works, its pretty sweet.  I compare it to a Surger machine for sewing.

Just to add my two cents.  The technology that is used in the instrument that clamps, cuts, and closes your stomach all at once was new way back in 1986 when I was new in the O.R. It is time tested and refined in case you have any reservations about it's safety.

Best of luck
