I think you're probably right about it being fatigue. The other thing to maybe consider is fat. I found that adding fat to my diet helped me a great deal. Healthy fat, of course :)

Yes, fat is far more important to this process than people realize. That might have been it too as I was taking flax oil every day and had stopped for a couple of days without realizing it. I took some today so we will see.

I may get chewed on for my uneducated opinion, but you may also be hungry as a result of your workouts. Not sure what your caloric intake is relative to your workouts, but what I am finding with myself is that as I have added a fair amount of muscle from working out, and I seem to be craving more food in general. I usually go to protein, but have also had days where fats or even yes, I confess, carb's have helped quell things. I'm within 25 pounds of goal and had been keeping things at or below 800 calories. Within the last two or three weeks its been 900 calories or less and I'm still losing (though a bit slower). The increased calories seems to cut back on my cravings. FWIW and YMMV.

I have increased my caloric intake a bit mostly with fats. My carb intake varies depending on my work outs. On days I distance run, I increase them a bit, it saves me from becoming fatigued on the run and allows me to finish. But I haven't run much this week so I have not had a high carb day.

OK, I know I am late to this party, but here goes anyway.  I am sure it is just as you self diagnosed, it's the lack of sleep.  You know what helps that?  Sleep, not food.  Get some.

I know you say that protein doesn't help and that carbs don't trigger you, but protein does help and carbs do trigger you.  Notice that the carbs are not helping either.  You don't have to do what I say, but I am going to keep saying to you anyway-- stay with the protein, cut the carbs and it takes a few days to work but eventually the hunger subsides.  I have brought this up over and over in the past few years at our support group, both my doctor and my nutritionist as well as most of the people there agree, carbs trigger hunger.  Sleep deprivation causes you to crave more carbs, telling yourself that you are not triggered by them sets up a great little dynamic.... I am sure you see where I am going here.  :)

You can listen to the people that will tell you I am full of it, or you can fight this internally, or you can just let the information in and live with it for a bit.  It's good stuff, I am telling you, it's really the good stuff.  Hugs Keith, I hope things are better now.  Also, I know you already know, but drink more when you are hungry.

I mostly do what you say. What I said was Quest bars don't trigger me. The carbs in there are mostly fiber. If I ate a candy bar I would be starving I am sure of that so I agree that sugar and carbs trigger me. I am also not eating these all the time, I was trying to crush the hunger. I was down 2 lbs on the scale this morning. I didn't go crazy either I was only over cals and carbs by a little yesterday. It wasn't until this morning that I figured out that it was sleep related. Going to be early tonight. And I did try loading up with protein first. The key indicator that I ignored is that after I ate the protein I still felt hungry and I didn't pick up on it until retrospective.

I tried drinking lots of water too. I tried all the tricks I knew of and rather than go the carb route (which was just a couple strawberries and a couple blueberries) I should have thought about sleep. Have to add that to my checklist of evaluations.

As always thanks for your words of wisdom and just let me know who says you are full of it and I will kick their ass. I think the only thing you and I don't really see eye to eye on is fat. That one I do disagree with you on. But hey we make the world go round.

You always figure you out in the end.  It sounds like you are doing better and going to bed early is a great idea. Me?  I am going dancing.  :)   I love giving you a hard time, you respond in the most gentlemanly way.  I hope you know that I love your posts and your "voice" here on OH.  If you agreed with me on everything, how boring would that be?
