What plan did your Dr. put you on?
Did you cheat?
What were your results?

My diet was a protein shake for breakfast and lunch.  With lunch, I could have either 1/2 cup of unsweetened oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce or pudding.  I also got to pick a food item for afternoon snack.  For dinner I was allowed 2 ounces of lean protein and either 1/2 cup V8 or 1 cup of green vegetables.  I could have a 3rd shake during the evening, but I never did.  I was allowed to have broth, jello, juices, etc....clear liquids - 64 ounces minimum and water.

I did cheat a few times...I had 3-4 ounces of protein most nights, instead of just 2.  I would eat veggies like cabbage or brussel sprouts and sometimes had more than 1 cup.  For lunch, I would cut up 5 baby carrots, a stalk of celery and a few green beans, and make a veggie soup with chicken broth, just to have something in my stomach.  I lost 16 pounds on the diet.

I am on three shakes a day. Also allowed, sf jello, sf ice pops, broth. While I try to get two shakes in a day, it is difficult. I have allowed myself a bit of low fat cottage cheese with jello, or a hard boiled egg. Needless to say, I am hungry. As of this morning I have lost 9.6 lbs.

I had been on Medifast for about 4 months prior. My surgeon gave me the choice of doing protein shakes or staying on Medifast. I chose Medifast and did not cheat that week. My surgeon stressed how important it was for my surgery success.. Since the end of January, until the day is surgery, I lost 71 pounds.

Wow! Is Medifast liquid or food?

Getting used to the hunger sucked.  By the 4th day, it wasn't really an issue any more.  I learned to fill up on water and sugar-free popsicles.  If you can get through the first week, you're golden :)

First my Dr. said no pre-op diet, then changed it to one week of liquids.  i was allowed 1 can low fat creamed soup per day.   I drank 2-3 GNC pure protein drinks a day, and ate the soup.  Yes, I "cheated"  I ate chicken on the 3rd day, and won-ton soup on the last day.  No effect to my stomach or my surgery.  He changed the order because I have a liver disorder and he wanted it to be small as possible for surgery.  However, when I "cheated", I knew I had a recent MRI which he didnenot have - and it said my liver is in great shape.

I am 12 days out with no complications. I ask the bariatric surgeon about how my liver looked and he said excellent.  He also said becasue I'm a lightweight - as are you - the surgery was 30 minutes and flawless.

Given how low your weight is to start -I'm suprised the Dr. is making you do a pre-op diet.

I was on the same plan as you.  3-4 shakes per day and no food (sf Jello doesn't count as food to me...lol!)  It was hard the first three days, but day four got better and I had my eye on the prize so I didn't cheat.  I did this for two weeks.  You can do this and it WILL be worth it.  Good luck to you!
