I'm almost 5 months out and *just* stopped regretting it. I had many complications after surgery so I couldnt appreciate the weight loss since i was constantly stuck in the hospital for the first 4 months... I'm just hoping for no more complications.

Its major surgery so complications are always a possibility and so is regret. You just have to see if that risk is better or worse than your current situation and whether you are willing to fight for your goal. Its a battle that you have to be willing to go into knowing there are many possibilities and outcomes.

Gosh Bey...I think it best you tell US what has ya so conflicted between the two surgeries?  Scheduling surgery pretty soon and not 100% sure to me isn't a good thing.  Ya know THINK TWICE but cut into me ONCE!!

You know YOU. Take a good hard look at your lifestyle your age your finances your expectations and YOUR LIMITATIONS.  and whether you can commit 100% to .

To answer your question...NO I NEVER EVER regretted having VSG.  It has been everything I ever expected and so much more. It fit perfectly in my lifestyle.

1. I had VSG to primarily resolve comorbids. all 5 comorbids I had a few up to 15 years.. incs. diabetes II, hyperlipidemia, hypertension removed from my chart..since 3 months out!  Still resolved.

2.. Im a cheapskate!!..I can't afford malabsorption! Commitment it takes is life n death with RNY/DS...financially couldn't afford it...well not true I coulda but didn't want to... I wanted to only take a couplea vits/mins each day vs. pay for handful everyday for the rest of my life because of malabsorption.  I looked at ME and the long term MY LIFE my horizon as I aged...I could picture myself being 80-90 and taking 3 different ones vs. up to 10 different ones EACH DAY. I had NO desire whatsoever to be skinny today but sick tomorrow. I didn't want to buy food n have to EAT up to 3,000 calories a day and only absorb a fraction of em...to me thats some expensive dookie. lmao!!

3. I wanted the control VSG gave me...the power thru my OWN lifestyle choices (diet n exercise)  to control my own weight, not having malabsorption do it for me. With VSG  Im no different than any other normal weighted person who controls/watches their weight.

Now....you ...w/ VSG can ya live with yourself if you don't reach some magical number in the sky you become fixated on. Its a daily commitment..just like anyone else out there right..diet n exercise.  Or would you feel better with malaborption and the daily commitment that takes.    VSGrs/RNYrs/DSrs ...all or any of us CAN and DO ...REgain,.......Check out the RNY board.  The same complaints , same worries at the end of the day.  Only you know YOU & what your limitations and expectations are.

My girlfriend had an RNY about a year after me...she's a helluva lot skinnier than me today, but then so is Nicole Ritchie both are around 5 ft tall.....lol

and fwiw...there have been NUMEROUS  XLNT VSGrs in the past 5 years that have revised to DS (we got the stomach already, AND we get to keep our pyloric valve w/ DS woot woot!!)..usually around 2 years out they know... They prolly needed malabsorption from the get go...diet n exercise required post VSG gettin to that magical number in the sky...was just too damn hard on em...and from what Ive seen & heard from em...they're pretty happy with their DS weight loss.

BE IN 100% whichever surg ya choose.

I'm still in the preop phase for the sleeve......but I know two people who have had the gastric bypass (RNY).....one doesn't regret it, no problems, the other doesn't regret it, but the sleeve wasn't available.....it it was, she would have had the sleeve---too many malabsorption issues

It's a decision only you can make.  Good luck!

I would get the Sleeve in a heartbeat over RNY. I would never get RNY, it is a very un-natural surgery IMHO.  I have had regrets with my Sleeve only since the last 10 weeks of my 13-week old Sleeve have been very Hellish with complications (nausea and vomiting, and many diagnoses as to what is causing it).  I hope that in a few months I won;t feel any regrets.  I say this a lot on this Board - there are NO guarantees with this surgery.  I am in the 4 - 6% who have these types of complications.

Hi Bey - I'm curious... Which did you decide to have and why??  I'm in a very similar situation as you were a year ago.  After years of research and financials out of the way... I'm having difficulty picking a procedure.

Thanks!

My only regret is not pulling the trigger when I had the first, or second, or a dozen other chances.
