I've been on Synthroid for 30 years, and although low thyroid may slow your weight loss somewhat, it doesn't prevent it once you're on a stable dose of medication.

You're going to do just fine.

Thank you Kelly-Anne, so nice to read your post--I was thinking of doing a natural remedy of walnut juice and kelp (but that sounds awful, doesn't it).  I do want to be able to get it monitored because it can cause some nasty things for us if we don't.  Thanks again you were extremely helpful!

You're very welcome, and yes, it sounds horrid. Lol

Your GP can generally do all the monitoring you need. It can take a bit of fiddling to get your dose right, and you'll need regular blood work, ideally every 6 months, but usually just annually once your dose is stable. You are going to feel SO much better once you're on the right dose of Synthroid. Trust me on that.

Talk to your pharmy and read the paper that comes with your prescription to be sure you take it correctly. (Empty stomach. Same time every day, no calcium or iron or HRT within 4 hours) I've been chewing mine on the way to my coffee maker for a LOT of years and my pharmy knows it.

In fact, when I asked him how I was going to manage my synthroid and PPI, both of which are supposed to be taken alone on an empty stomach an hour before food AND eat within an hour of rising, he said,"Chew your synthroid like you always do, take the PPI with some water and make breakfast. You'll be fine." (And I was)

Glad you found this out now...I have hashimotos thyroiditis and I lose VERY slow and get discouraged all the time but I remind myself that losing slow is good because I won't have that much excess skin (I workout 4-5 days a week with an aerobic workout and strength training). Dr. who did my surgery monitors everything I do. With medication your levels can be at a normal range. I just recently couldn't figure out why I was so tired all the time and learned my thyroid was not where it needed to be so they upped my meds, which I take synthroid...the name brand. I wouldn't take the generic it can be off by 20% of what the actual medicine is. Yes find a good Endo! My bestie and I had surgery the same day and she has lost almost 70 pounds and I have only lost 37 pounds. Idk how many inches she has lost because she isn't keep up with them but I have lost 22 inches as well. It's slow but still goes down. Best wishes to you! =)

Thank you Mildollarsmile!! I like you point of losing slowly and not having so much excess skin (very good point and something I've never thought of).  At this point I can't even imagine working out 4-5 days a week, but hopefully I will be able to do this also.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

You're most welcome! You will be able to workout more in the long run...start slow...walk 15-30 min 3 times a week, only you know your body and how far and hard you can pu**** (I'm terrified to death of excess skin, so thankful mine is going so slow becuase of this Hashimoto's disease) I am however working on going gluten free....it is supposed to help ease the symptoms of Hashimotos) You got this!!
