Clear Proteins

Don't you love when pre-ops come and blow up the boards!

I am two weeks away and trying to get a grip on post-op life as much as possible.

I was exploring some different protein shakes and I bought this blue raspberry isopure protein drink. For starters, as a Graphic Designer, LOVE the graphics! (yes I am a sucker for great graphics!) Besides that, it is 20oz, 160 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, 40g of protein and a clear!

Would this (and they have other clear flavors) be a good option for me to have post-op to get my protein in? I know protein is VERY helpful with healing... even though many people say in the VERY beginning such focus on getting liquids down, should I have some of these on hand post-op when I am in the clear liquid stage?

Yep, with a couple of caveats. First, make sure it is ok with your doc. Second, I liked them before my surgery, but as folks will tell you happens, my tastes have changed. I could not tolerate the milk I was instructed to drink, and my doc recommended the clear drinks. I tried them but couldn't stomach them. GNC will accept unopened items as returns.

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks! I will double check with my surgeon of course... but if sugar free packets of the kool-aid man are ok, I dont see why this couldnt be considering it is clear, light, and basically kool-aid with protien but better. haha

I will keep the taste thing in mind as well... I was thinking of getting one of each flavor (the vitamin shoppe has a fridge to buy indiviuals from). They arent cheap, but if I can stomach them post-op I think it would be worth it to get in that kind of protein. Of course... I will know in 2 weeks... haha

If you can drink the stuff post op, yep, it's a great option.  Your tastes may change - things that were ok today may be awful - so don't go buy a case lol.

I like the stuff and it's a great way to get in some good protein.  Amazon sells the little 8 oz. plastic bottles (a much better value than those big glass bottles) in 6-packs (total of 24 in a box) - in the punch and grape flavor.  I stick a 6-pack in the fridge at the office and use it in the afternoon as part of my fluids.  Each 8 oz. bottle has 15 grams of protein.

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!

Great Option. Great Protein. Great Product. Terrible Flavors. Blue Raz isnt too bad, fruit punch is not too bad. The rest are not that great. Oh grape was ok too. Orange was terrible. I have heard orange banana pineapple is pretty good but I never could find it. I drank one a day until I got to full foods.

My surgeon REQUIRES 1 bottle of Isopure a day for the first 3 days after surgery. It should be fine.

You probably won't be able to get down much of that post op so depend on things you can tolerate as that Isopure is pretty thick and I can't stomach it. So yes, it would be 40 grams but it would take you a week to drink it. Lol. I would suggest adding some water to it. I prefer to get my protein from Healthwise fruit drink mix. Each pack is 15g. I mix 2 packs with 7 oz of water and use the Crayola Popsicle molds to make 3 Popsicles. I get 30 grams of protein by eating 3 pops. I can tolerate this best but no one is the same!

Best wishes!!
