For Those Of You Who Lost Your BUTT!
I want to also advocate for the Romanian (stiff legged) Dead Lift. This exercise is also a very powerful tool to build and tone the hamstrings and the glutes. I actually get more sore doing this exercise than when I do squats. I think this exercise also helps add that nice definition between the hamstrings and glutes making for a well shaped back of leg. This goes for both men and women.
I will tell you what I notice on my own body from doing all the lower body work (which I am slowly beginning to appreciate cuz you all know I'm not wild about doing squats, etc....) But first, background......
I avoided doing anything lower body for fear that I would build up my legs. I consider my legs too short and too thick to begin with. I mentioned this to my trainer at the outset and he humored me but said it was still important to do a full body workout. Fast forward 15 months.....
My legs are much stronger. They are smaller and tighter and showing definition - even in my calves and the muscles going down my lower legs on the side (whatever they are called). My thighs are like rocks and I can wear classic fit, snuggly fitting jeans without worry. AND my hips are getting smaller, not bigger from all this work. It's exactly like my trainer said. I'm getting smaller and more defined by all this work - NOT BIGGER or THICKER.
As much as I resisted doing squats and lower body workouts, the results are phenomenal. You really can not go wrong listening to Keith's advice here.
Personally...... I much prefer tiny butts on my womans...... makes my "unit" look bigger..... it's all in the scale.......
