When did you give up coffee and soda?

Thanks! That's one way of looking at it!  I'm just scared of the migraines that always happen when I go without coffee.

I had my last soda 12 hours before surgery.  This was my psychology....Your going to feel bad for the first few days to a week after surgery anyway you cut it so why not just add caffeine withdrawals to the mix.  My No.1 reason for waiting till after surgery is because I hoped that my desires for food and drinks would change and they definately did.  Every NUT is going to say quit ahead of time but its not absolutely necessary.  Just my way of seeing the world.

I did this as well. I was so miserable right after surgery trying to get my liquids in that a soda did not cross my mind.

soda.  get rid of it ASAP and forever.

coffee.  limit to one a day w/ artificial sweetener.  none 2 weeks before surgery (because i like the cream), and didnt restart coffee until I was easily reaching my water goals post-op (about a month).  still 1-2 a day max (one of those is a proteined drink)

I actually put a scoop of protein powder in my ice coffee now - gives me such a boost to start the day! I like my half and half though so definitely have to quit before the 2 wk diet.  Thanks!

I quit caffeine when I started the WLS program - 6 months before surgery.   I was never a soda drinker so no issue there.

I had my consult in 1/2012, gave it up for Lent that year and never went bac****il about 1 week before the liquid diet that started 7/12/12, at 6 mos out, I added tea back into the mix and every morning I have a mint cookie protein shake mixed with coffee.  I drink unsweet tea all the time now and unsweet chai tea (I do put stevia in that sometimes if I am making it over ice).  I have since had a Diet Coke when it was the only option at a Girl Scout camp I was at, did not like the taste anymore and made me burp!  I prefer unsweet tea any day now.  The main reason I never considered WLS surgery in the past was because I did not want to give up my Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper, how dumb was that???  But, the sleeve was just covered by my insurance when I had it, so maybe my ignorance saved me from getting a Crap Band!

What brand of mint cookie protein shake do you use?

I gave up soda right away when I started my nutrition classes. I gave up coffee about a month before starting my 10 day pre-op diet. I didn't want to be dealing with caffeine withdrawal and carb withdrawal at the same time. I resumed drinking coffee at about three months post-op when it was no longer such a struggle to get in my water.

Good to know I won't be struggling with the water forever. Thanks.

I switched to decaf and stopped drinking soda about 1 month before surgery.  I also started being really strict about drinking while eating so I was used to it by the time I got to eat solid food post op.

I was a soda fiend but going cold turkey it's rare I even miss it.  I didn't have much problems without caffeine considering that I typically was drinking 20 ounces of espresso and another 20 ounces of regular coffee a day plus the caffeine load from 32 ounces of soda a day.
