No desire to eat!
I am two weeks post-op and am on soft foods. I have finally found a combo for a protein shake that I can tolerate. Also drinking from a straw helps a whole bunch too! Any other food I have tried is just not good. I was so excited to eat some refried beans with homemade salsa verde. The first bite was amazing, but after the third, I was done. I never feel hungry or have an urge to eat. So not sure that I even feel full after the first few bites because I was not hungry to begin with. I am trying to eat different things, but nothing taste very good. Is this normal? Any feedback would be appreciated. I am starting to think that I will be drinking shakes only until I am able to consume some meat! Which is not until day 36 and I am on day 16... 20 more days!
Even if you only did shakes and fluids for 20 more days you would be fine. Don't expect to by "hungry" in the way that you were preop- especially now. Remember that you have nerve damage in the tummy due to surgery, so you may not feel the normal full sensation- super important to measure what you eat so you don't over due it and stress your staple line.

you need to eat and drink by the clock not by feeling , it is possible you will n ever feel hungry again ,
you need to eat to live not live to eat
I would stick to soft foods like eggs and tuna that are higher in protein than beans
Hi,
It had the same issues. At first, I could only eat one ounce at a time. The thought of eating anything would make me queasy. I could keep the food down, but I never wanted to eat. I would eat by the clock, and measure my 1 ounce or 2 ounces of food so I wouldn't overeat.
The swelling went down in week 7, and I could eat more and didn't feel queasy at the thought of food. So it does get better.
The best part is that the drive to eat is gone. And that is such a relief. I love my sleeve, and I think you will in a few weeks, as well.
best wishes,
Carol

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any eggs in my fridge... I was so excited to try one and thought the whole time I had some, and went to fix myself one and not there! I had told my mom to take what she wanted out of my cabinets and fridge, she did just that! Lol. Right now the only thing I am putting in my mouth has some protein in it. I have only had the beans twice and it was maybe two teaspoons each time. Since I have been using a straw I am taking in a lot more water. Not really drinking anything bu****er and a tiny amount of juice or crystal light to take my meds. I am not cleared to eat tuna until day 22. I have never been able to eat seafood of any kind! I know that is not a good thing... I will try it again. But it is the smell that turns my stomach. On day 29 I can add ground meats. I have heard Wendy's chili is a good option for that stage.

I remember my surgeon telling me this from the very start, and he said it so seriously that it really stuck with me. Now, this may pertain to you more later than now, but this is what he said. "This will work for you BUT YOU HAVE TO have the 3 meals (no matter how small), not drinking 30 min. before or 30 minutes after, and this is the key" So I'm listening, try to start out with very little, that is o.k. and call that your meal and move on. We can do this!
