Linda -

Thank you for that.  I am a little over 22 lbs from my goal and I still want it very badly.  I don't want to sabotage myself but I also want to be realistic to what my body thinks my goal should be.  As I do get closer to goal, I want to give myself excuses to go off track and indulge but I have not given into it.  I want to stay strong.  I still think I can make it to my goal weight and be able to maintain it so I am going to stay strong.  I don't feel deprived yet or like my food plan is keeping me from enjoying life.  I have surpassed my surgeon's goal and am only 11.6 lbs from my PCP's goal.  I am going to stay strong and not let the indulgences creep in.

Keith get your butt in gear and go back to basics.  Protein and water first, then you can have your beer every once in a while!!!!!!!!!

Good for you Jackie. Keep your eye on the prize and let your body determine how low it will go. By leaving the indulgences until maintenance, you will know exactly what that number is and you will be able to formally claim goal when it gets there. Don't deny yourself the tremendous sense of accomplishment that comes with reaching such an important milestone in your life. You will be in maintenance a whole lot longer than the weight loss phase, so lots of time for future indulgences when you get there.

I agree with everything you said here. Thanks for the kick! I am not struggling with getting back on track after vacation, I just made some observations on some things that need improvement. I did have a bread problem immediately following vacation, but I have since eliminated that and I am doing fine on food. Eating habits need improvement and water and vitamins. I needed to put it out there because for some reason it makes it more real if I see it.

I'll leave it to the others to continue to provide their sage advice about how to get back on track, but I'd like to offer up an observation that I witness often here. I'm certainly no expert, but I've successfully made it to goal without much difficulty, so I hope you can hear what I'm saying.

It seems to me that many of the folks who have built 'indulgences' into their weight loss programs have a very difficult time when they get to within striking distance of goal.  The pattern seems to be that the indulgences start taking on a life of their own. They become more frequent, more extreme, and more difficult to dial back from.  Soon, the overall caloric intake goes up and people begin slipping into maintenance mode, which means they may never get to their goal weight.  They get close, but they don't get there.  That's certainly a valid choice to make, but in many cases, it seems that not reaching goal was not a conscious choice, but rather an inevitable outcome of the higher caloric intake.

So at least for me, my weight loss phase was very straightforward and successful because I did not permit indulgences.  Instead, I focused on getting to goal as quickly as possible.  Now, I'm in maintenance.  That's a formal decision, based on my outcomes, so I get to make different choices.

Sorry, but that's how I see it.  You wouldn't sugar coat the truth for anyone else, so I'm doing the same for you.  You are a very smart and inspirational person.  You can and will figure this out!

Bingo !!!

Very well said...... much more "White Gloved" than I could do.......

Pull it together dude "if you want it" ......right now your on a typical path to fall short......

Linda, you said what I wanted to say but decided not to because I wasn't sure how to make it come across as inspirational rather than preachy.  You found the balance and broke the code.  All I have to say is "Ditto" or "Like" and I am done.  I love it when it's that easy.  :)

Just to be clear, this is not about getting back on track. I am not off track. This is about refining some of the things I need to improve upon. I am down to my last 30,40,50 lbs after losing 168, I know these last few are going to come off much more slowly but I am not happy with that answer. I want them off and I want them off now. I have not delusions of hitting goal in one year but I have also been very focused on building muscle. I would like to see my body fat down to 20% and my 5k time down to less than 30 mins by my 1 year anniversary. Considering I was at 26.4 in my last measurement that means I have to lose about 14lbs of fat in the next 36 days.

I respectfully disagree with your statement that you are not off track.  There have been too many self-reports of too many weekends of ignoring your food plan, the plan which got you this far!

Keith, if you really want to lose the rest of your excess weight, get back into weight loss mode, STAY THERE, and stop playing around with it.  Stop taking the weekends off from your plan.  Stop eating things that you would smack away out of our hands if you thought it would hurt us to eat them.  You are too damn smart for this and too damn far along to give up now.  I completely understand the concept of being months and months out and having things slack off some or being willing to let that happen, but if you really want this you need to stick with it.

If you have people in your life who are tempting you to eat off plan one way or another, you need to strategize your way back into focus and ignore what they are doing.  This is your life, this is your future, and it's your hand to your mouth.  The clock is ticking, and with every postop day that goes by where you are not adhering to your plan, you lose a little bit more of the advantage you have right now.

I know I don't post here often, but I'm coming up on my 1 yr revision anniversary next month. I've lost 150 lbs and have 20 freaking pounds that won't go away...why? Because I wasn't 100% on track!! Yep, I was only 80% on track for the last three months, bouncing the same darn 2-3 lbs up and down. I am proud of my ability to stay in a maintenance range, but now it's time to quit making excuses and I am back 100% in plan now. You must be 100% on track to get 100% to goal. If your goal is 85% goal, then give 85% effort-not enough water, little higher carb, whatever your pitfalls are, but call them like you see it. Easy to say, hard to do, I'm living it too. Live and learn, I don't necessarily regret my little hiatus from being 100% on plan, because it gave me the time to test my maintenance a bit and I feel confident how need to continue to monitor myself, weigh, etc. and i wasnt ready to get back on until now...,But I WAS off track....my track is 100% goal....is yours?
