my 2 cents.. the rare times I do have peanut butter, I'm full for quite a while, no desire for anything, even if I had the pb due to cravings of the emotional or physical kind....

I often have a spoon full of peanut butter in the evening. its my late night treat and really makes me feel full and sated. i just have ordinary peanut butter so there is some sugar in it.  its high in calories but really hits the spot. i started this when i got to goal weight and was still losing and needed extra calories.

so i think there is something about the peanut butter that is very filling and satisfying. a small serving of peanuts does the same thing without the sugar.

read the book "Wheat Belly" for interesting perspective on carbs.   Diane

Keith, There will be no yelling or name calling from me if it worked for you than roll with it. I thank we all have to readjust our food intake sometimes. Yesterday I ate a bit of cake and I was done. I haven't had cake in over 5 months. I was down 3 pounds for the week. Sometime I just have to give the devil in me his cake( one small *****e had it and i don't desire it and more. Like I said if it works for you roll with it.

"I am open to all input here and so far have only been offended by the accusation that I encourage young girls to puke up their food."   Whoa.  I must have missed that one.  I'm sorry that someone threw that one at you.  I don't think I've ever seen you post anything even approaching that.

"On the upside, I did not indulge in any food/alcohol adventures this weekend and I managed to get 10 workouts in 6 days plus a 4.5 mile walk on my "rest" day."   That is a real achievement, and you should feel proud.  It shows you're really trying to regain and maintain your focus, and you get major props for that!

Any clue as to the numbers on the peanut butter and granola experiment?  The only real danger I saw in what you did would be if you didn't have a good idea, because even though it was a smart spur-or-the-moment choice, it was still just that.  I think.  Still, as you say, you did NOT eat a cookie or a candy bar.  Stuff happens, and one thing I know about you is that you'll own it when it does.

How were your carb cravings overall for the week?

Carb cravings were no different than normal except for yesterday, basically that is that I would always like to eat a candy bar or some cookies, pie, casket, chips, but I don't or if I do it is just one bite and I have the control to stop. Yesterday was much stronger and it also happens the few times I have been to orange theory before breakfast.

I'm late in the game on this AND I decided not to read any of the responses. Here's my take:

GOOD FOR YOU! Not sure if you know this (who am I kidding.... you must!), but the way you went at the carbs was actually a very positive, scientific way to go about ingesting them. You mixed the carbs, slow acting as they are, with fats (nut butter). By doing that you slow the ingestion of the carbs and the conversion to glucose down even more. This is the exact reason my doctor (PCP) always says that if you HAVE to eat potato make sure you eat it with some butter, margarine, sour cream or some other fat to slow down the glucose invasion of the blood stream!

I'm not sure I would have chosen this method to quell the craving during my WL phase, but I will tell you, it is one I will absolutely consider the next time I have an "itch that I just can't scratch" in the craving department. (Luckily, most often now my cravings are for beef which isn't much of a problem.)

On a side note: I had a cookie today and part of my strategy for dealing with the cravings that cropped up about an hour later was to eat a handful of mixed nuts. Did the trick. I find fats are a good way to deal with cravings. Fats really are the nutrient that satisfies us in the long run.
