How long did it take for you to start getting rid of your old clothing that is too big for you?  I still have a closet full of them.  This might get easier now that I am near my maintenance level.  This has been my hardest mental hurdle to date.

I get rid of a size as soon as I can fit into a lower size.  I have been buying all my clothes at two very nice consignment stores, so the cost of several new wardrobes has not been to bad.  I am happy happy happy to bag up those old clothes.

I get rid of them as soon as I stop wearing them because I've moved down a size. Selling my old clothes to a second hand store or on EBay helps me to pay for new stuff. If there are pieces that aren't worth selling , I just donate them!

I got rid of the largest stuff as soon as the next size down fit reasonably. For casual clothes i saved most of my clothes as my weight rose through the years. So having stuff to wear on weekends isn't really a problem yet.

As I move into the next stages I've been holding onto one size up until I'm able to squeeze into one size down. I don't think I need to hold onto them, but I don't want to get rid of something I need either. I mostly am doing this with pants.

I purged all of my off-season clothes the night before surgery. Now anything that is too big is gone.

So, if you are someone who has trouble getting rid of things in general, maybe you can take a baby step and take the clothes that don't fit and put them in in a bin or sack in basement/garage/the trunk of your car....once you are used to Not seeing them, drop them off for donation. Just a thought - it has worked for me in the past. Congratulations on your weight loss!

About every 2-3 months I did a complete closet inventory, anything too big got moved to the spare room. Eventually I had enough stuff that the Salvation Army agreed to come pick it up.

consult weight 241 (had not been accurately weighed for over 10 years, my medical records just said "wheelchair") high weight was probably closer to 260.
