To the best of my knowledge you can't stop the hair loss.  Do some research on telogen effluvium.  Some take biotin to help the regrowth along, but results vary.  Biotin doesn't stop hair loss, because when the hair goes into its resting phase it just has to run its course.

The best you can do is try to keep your protein and fluids up where they should be and then just wait it out.  My major hair loss stopped somewhere around 9-10 months postop.

LOL!!!

if we could stop or slow it, we would!!

it just has to run its course...keep protein and fluids at max....

my NUT suggested doubling up on my multi vitamin...

I see regrowth, but my hair is BRUTAL!

My Nut. said to up my protein by 5-10 grams. I'm at 3 months and have noticed some loss. I also take biotin.

grin and bear it. It will stop when it stops. It is caused early post op by anesthesia. Later post op,it. Can be caused by protein malnutrition. At 5 months out,you should still have plenty of fat for your body to. Break down and turn into its useable form. Ou would not be having protein, malnutrition now.

I've been taking a sulphur supplement called MSM that seems to be making my hair thicker. Also, look into derma-rolling.

Ellen - I'm just about 6 months out and have been getting all my protein (plus extra) and have still experienced bad hair loss.  What I discovered recently is that the PPI I'm taking can actually interfere with the breaking down and absorption of protein.  Which probably explains why my 6-mo. prealbumin level was well below normal.  Low prealbumin levels are an indication of protein malnourishment.  So guess what?   I stopped taking that damn PPI the very next day.  I'd rather have stomach acid that no hair!!   I'm hoping in a couple weeks that I'll see a difference with the hair.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

I read somewhere, or my NP told me, that the hair loss that occurs at the 6 month phase is from the anesthesia they used in the surgery.

Might be something to research.

Good luck.
