I just made myself lunch and realized that 2oz of meat on a little plate now looks completely normal to me.

I know that feeling. Now if I go out and eat the plate they serve me looks like it belongs to a giant.

I totally understand this.

I watch my coworkers eat their lunches and I think Wow!  I used to eat a LOT of food!  One particular co-worker reminds me of me in regards to eating habits before surgery.  At lunch Thursday, he had about 4 portions of a taco bake, a good portion of fries, and a big piece of pie on top of all  that.  It made me ill to watch him eat all this and then of course, he was miserable feeling afterward.  I felt sad for him (and me pre-surgery) and I am so glad to be over that spiral down.  I even noticed that when we went out for an office party last week that the appetizer that was shared had a bit more left after everyone was full from it and I saw that look in his eyes as he gazed at the appetizer and debated on whether to have more because he felt as though everyone would judge him (as he judged himself as well) and he even stated, 'that is so yummy I just can't stop myself' and everyone gave him 'permission' to eat more.  An intern the other day made these big cake type fudge cookies and he had one and the intern had to ask him not to eat more as she wanted others to have some too and he became defensive and was embarrassed.  All he talks about is food (almost all things turn back to food topics for him).  He was a person who also tried to talk  me out of my surgery and now states that he is looking into it but is just happy being fat.  I don't pressure him one way or another.  I just provide him with honest answers when he asks questions and am just happy for myself that I can look at food in a different way now.  I have no idea why I just went into this rant but must have felt the need.  Either way, when I go out to eat I typically try to find the cup of soup or the side salad to put some grilled chicken on (and it's still too much).

I'm still finding this a hard thing for me.  Although 2 oz is all that I can comfortably eat at a time, my "big eyes" want more than that.  And I'm still eating way too fast.  I'm finding these habits very hard to break.  But they were a long time in the making so I don't get discouraged when I forget my new "rules".

I only 5.5 weeks out, but I totally get it. Small portions, and chewing thoroughly & slowly is just the norm now. It's kind of shocking for me considering my previous way of eating. The thought of eating any more or any faster freaks me out a little. When I first started soft foods I ate a bite too much and it was pure misery. I don't want to feel that again!

The weird thing for me is when you start thinking than 3 oz of fish and a spoonfull of zucchini is overeating and you catch yourself saying how huge your plate looks and everyone around you thinks you need your head examined.
