OP, no shaming from me.I'm a pre-sleever, so you can ignore me if you want.  I get it--you had an off day. A reeeeeally off day. Because you just wanted that popcorn. And that candy. And the drink.  You wanted to forget about your food addiction for a little while and just be normal. IMO, a lot of people probably feel the same way.  You ate your fill and you paid the price for it. I bet you won't do that again!

I think addiction to food is just as strong as addiction to alcohol, nicotine, or cocaine. We "use" to fill a void in our life, to feel normal, to forget past hurts. I know that is true for me.  I recognize that, like an alcoholic, i will have to be constantly mindful of my addiction if Im going to be successful with my WLS.  I will have to constantly make the decision to stay on track.

A friend of mine who was in AA told me this:  I don't care what you do, just don't use.  Do something else. Anything else. But walk away from your drug of choice (i my case, bad choices in food.)  Hard to do, I'm telling you. Personally, i'm glad you printed your story. It's a great object lesson for all of us in how quickly we can be led astray by our old habits and desires. It's a slippery slope and we have to be ever vigilent.

It's so true. There are some days that I still want to be "normal". I just have to remind myself that THIS is my new normal. And your also right in the fact that I definitely will NOT be putting myself through that again. It just was NOT worth it.

Best of luck on your journey. It's definitely a marathon, not a sprin****ch out for those hurdles along the way, too!

My weight loss journey was a slower than others.  I certainly made my fair share of mistakes along the way.  But, each time I made a mistake, I learned from it.  Something tells me that you will, too.  Go ahead and plan your menu for the next time you go to the movies.  Write about how you feel tonight after eating those things at the movies and read it before you go again to remind yourself how you feel when you cheat.

The important thing  is awareness.  You can do this.  Good luck and best wishes to you.  :)

AWARENESS! Yessss! That is definitely the most important thing. This journey has NO room for denial. And I am in NO denial about what happened this evening. Thank you for commenting. It's really encouraging to hear from someone who ha**** goal without being perfect. I'm not perfect. I would set myself up for sore disappointment if I strived for perfection.

Next time I hit the movies, I'm going to throw a protein bar in my purse. I'm kind of annoyed with myself that I didn't think of that before.

A friend of mine had a sleeve a few months ago and I was surprised at the things she is eating.  She has told me she throws up when she eats the wrong things or too much of something,  Not worth the effort to do all the gut wrenching, toilet hugging if you ask me.  Sorry you learned the hard way

We all have slip ups and our not perfect. I think the lesson was learned here and it is over and will move forward. I myself, have also found that when I'm rushed and not being "mindful" of what's going on around me and not in the moment I make mistakes. For instance, when I get home a little late from work and it's been already over 2 hours since my last snack and I am starving..I tend to graze and pick at foods as I'm making myself dinner. A very old habit that I easily fall back into. I get into this "eyes glazed over" mode where I'm on autopilot and eating. Someone mentioned awareness and I think this is the key. Have to get into a new habit of when feeling rushed or feeling starving to take a minute..step back..and slow down. I know it's tricky when feeling rushed..it takes practice. I try to practice mindful eating strategies every day they can be very helpful.

Autopilot. Exactly. It's a really thought habit to break, isn't it? We start this process with a "live to eat" mentality, and it's not easy to flip the switch instantly into an "eat to live" routine. You said it right when you said that it's tricky when feeling rushed. I usually look at menus before going out, plan everything to a "T", but this time I just wasn't able to for a ton of unimportant reasons. It's a lesson in slowing down and planning better. Thanks for the reply.
