I'm going to the gym!
So what? No big deal, right? Wrong! It's a huge deal and I'm a ball of nerves over it! As someone who has always been self conscious, I have avoided gyms like the plague in the past. My mind is half expecting the people at the gym to stare at me and of course they're going to see that not only am I incredibly clumsy and uncoordinated, but I also have no idea what I'm doing so its obvious that I've never stepped foot in a gym before.
My goal for this post? I fully expect at least one person to read this, and that somehow makes me accountable for going (as if my health wasn't already the #1 reason!). So I will comment on this thread again, and hopefully I'll be able to comment when I'm back home and tell you about how I didn't make a fool of myself :)
The good news is that there are so MANY newbie****ting the gym in January that you won't stand out. Remember: people are much too concerned about what everyone is thinking about THEM to be very concerned about YOU! Perspective, baby ;-)
BTW - big kudos for making this a goal and putting yourself out there. You can do it!
the secret is to find the right gym , you want to avoid gyms that people go to to pick up people or to socialize
my gym has classes for older people and has water aerobics and walking , there are many heavier people and people with many health problems
after the first time there I felt comfortable and go 6 days a week for over 1 year
ps my gym also has Olympic weight lifting so there is also young healthy people
Good for you KrissyMisssy. I didn't come to this until 6 months after surgery, so you are AWESOME! I really do love it so far--I like swimming in the pool the best.

Thanks so much for the encouragement, everyone! It feels nice to be reminded that I'm not the only one feeling this way!
And YES! I went to the gym! I only did the bike and for just 30 minutes, but it's a start! Plus I signed up for a 6 week long intro to spinning class, AND I'm going again first thing tomorrow morning :)
30 minutes on the bike for your first time in is AWESOME, and the spinning class sounds wicked! Enjoy your new life.
