Mine did.  However, I'll tell you this, make sure to have some LOOSE and BIG underwear that you can pull up easily.  I found it very difficult to even bend enough to put the pad on and pull up my underwear because of the pain.  Tampons were out of the question.  haha  It will just make things easier.  :-)

Just had this experience last week.  My mom was here so rescheduling was not an option.  I told the nurse in pre-op and they just had me go "au naturel" during the process, and they put a pad under me at some point.  Everyone was discrete and the post-op nurse gave me those wonderful mesh undies and a bunch of grand canyon pads.  I used my own undies (just had the catheter go out the side) and one of the pads so I felt a little more normal.  There were a few embarrassing moments when I had a male active duty army nurse take out the catheter the day after surgery....but that's life and he handled it in stride.  And it would have been embarrassing anyway :)

I'm past the age where I get embarrassed in hospitals anymore. I figure, they've seen one old fat woman they've seen them all and who cares. I'll be all modest at home or whatever, but following some of my other surgeries my poor sweetie had to tidy up all the unpleasant bits and he didn't mind. I also had to help him out after some of HIS very unpleasant medical adventures and I didn't mind that either. Some days, you're just too sore and you just can't reach and you just gotta ask someone!

Ugh I HATE getting catheters out! NOT looking forward to that part at all! Blech!!!  :P

I have a newfound respect for my husband after having had my VSG....even more than I did when I had our kids.  He saw (and heard) things that no one should have to.  ;)

You may not necessarily be catheterised. I did not have either a catheter or any drains. Different docs do different things.

I had a drain but no catheter. Maybe you'll be lucky enough not to have one also!

TOM started the day before my surgery. On the day of I told them I had a tampon in, they said that was fine. Afterward it was those awful mesh granny panties and hospital pads, but I survived! :-)

What's important to know having experienced it, the nurses see it everyday and deal with it as the do bed pans and the such.  My Italian mother would say, "you are a girl, get over it!"

I had to take yet another prenancy test right before they wheeled me into the OR and SURPRISE! I had started spotting! I didn't have a catheter so it wasn't a big deal for them.

Good luck!

Hahaha, yeah, I had to take pregnancy tests, which amuses me because I'm infertile (and not because of the weight, I've had things REMOVED) but they still make you do it. Even though pregnancy for me would probably involve some pretty invasive procedures, and a laboratory, at this point.
