Food for Working Out?
I am 3 weeks post op and have been cleared to work out again. I find that on the puréed stage, I am sometimes hungry to the point of lightheadedness. I am wondering if it would be ok to add more carbs for pre-workout energy? I don't want to gain, but I noticed that some fat free refried beans or even a glass of skim milk seems to give me a boost.
Thanks!
Check your blood pressure first before assuming it's hunger. You'd be surprised how little weight loss it takes to affect this if you have a past history of BP meds.
At three weeks out, don't go crazy with carbs. You need to stay in ketosis as long as possible (think months here). Small (VERY SMALL) doses might do the trick, but make sure you're tracking it in MFP and be sure of what you're doing.
Also, believe it or not, exercise for weight loss is not your primary concern at this point. You can easily achieve very significant weight loss via the diet restriction of the sleeve alone. At three weeks, your main exercise focus should be on regaining your capacities. Mobility and cardiovascular are the usual culprits. Basically, yes this process is partly a rebirth, just don't go thinking you need to be "all-in" at three weeks out. It all comes with time if you're committed.
So, keep carbs low and trust the sleeve.

Thank you for this. I think I will cut the carbs and ease back in to working out, maybe with water aerobics or something. I did have my BP checked yesterday and it was great, but my doc is talking about lowering my dose soon.
I am down 39 pounds since January 1st so this process definitely works! Just want to make sure I make good choices.
Thanks again!
