Pain sucks!

My surgery pain is actually great. Totally manageable. I took two doses of liquid Tylenol with codeine the first day at home, one the next few, and only half a dose last night.

My back however?! It is so done with this "can't sleep normally" thing. I'm one of those people who likes to roll around all night but I can't sleep on either side yet and my back is so stiff and unhappy about it when I wake up!

Do you have one of those rice bags you heat up in the microwave?  They were heaven to me that first week at home until I could roll on my side.  I heated it up and put it under my lower back while I slept.  It doesn't stay hot all night, though, so I'm not sure if they'll help all that much with the stiffness upon waking.  I like heat much more than ice for a stiff back/neck. Oh, and I even heated one up to put on my belly to help with the incision soreness!

I was the same way. The incision pain was ok but my back pain was terrible. I used my heating pad and was able to carefully sleep and roll around at the end of the first week. It started getting better after that...good luck!

Thanks!  I'm glad to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel :D

Last night I could roll to either side... but staying there for any period of time was not comfortable.  Ugh.  Today is day 7, so hopefully the end is in sight.

Glad to hear your pain was pretty tolerable.  I think I was about 5 days post op when I started sleeping on my side.  A big pillow was tucked under my tummy to help with support.  That was a great feeling.  Good luck with everything!

Last night was a little bit better with the side sleeping!  Thanks!

I was a good 3-4 weeks sleeping on my back. I had a HUGE bruise on the left side, from the middle of my stomach all across my side, and round to the back a bit so rolling onto the left side hurt. On the right side, my sutures were pulled a bit too tightly and puckered a bit, making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep on that side too. The tummy was a definite no-no, so my back it was. Luckily, I love to sleep on my back. But I needed a heating pad (the rice bags) under my back or by my side for support, and I tucked a pillow under my knees because without it, I too was incredibly stiff in the morning. My hips and back were screaming without that under-the-knee pillow. If you haven't tried that, maybe it would help?

I hope it eases soon. It's always much better when we can get decent sleep!

Oh my gosh!  Why so many bruises?!

Thanks for the suggestion of the knee pillow.  Last night was a bit better than the night before, so I'm hopeful that tonight will be even better.  :)
