First day of my second week

I slept miserably last night. I was so cold that my shivering attempts to warm myself were actually causing me physical pain in my stomach. I finally gave in and woke my partner up so he could raid the house for more blankets. I wonder if my electric blanket is dead?  Or if this is just a surgery side effect?

But I did sleep!  And this morning I had a solid bowel movement for the first time!! And I weighed myself for the first time since surgery and I'm down 6 pounds and have met my first weight goal which was to get out of the top BMI category!!!

YAY RAH!!!!!

I had nights like that after my surgery. I also get it once a month before my period. It is hormonal. The loss of fat releases hormones. I am almost 4 months out and I get "cold" days. I just bundle up and grab a blanket or heating pad.

Congrats on hitting that first goal! I am sure it will be first of many goals that you hit!

Thanks for the reassurance!  I'm sad that my electric blanket didn't do its job.  Maybe I need a second one ;)

I have had both knees replaced and lap band surgery and for several weeks after each surgery, I was freezing a lot of the time.  I am normally very warm blooded but not after surgeries.

I then helped to rehab my mother and a friend after joint replacement surgeries and dealt with the same thing.

It's nice to know this is normal!  I think part of my issue is also that I can't stay on my side for any period of time which means I can't snuggle up to my partner for warmth!!

My hubby bought me a heated mattress pad.  We each have a controller so we can adjust the temp 'we' want.  He hardly ever uses his side but I use mine a lot.  It's nice because you can pre-warm the bed and I haven't had a cold night since.  Well except for this week.  I'm visiting my sister and have multiple quilts on my bed trying to stay warm.

I also found that having some protein just before bed helped to keep warm too.

I have a heated mattress pad and love it :D  But I'm beginning to wonder if it's dying.  It is close to 10 years old at this point!

I'll try the protein before bed idea tonight!

Did you check to make sure you do not have a fever with chills which would signal an infection?  If so, that needs to be attended to by a doctor immediately.

I did, since that's definitely something I'm concerned about!  My temp is fine and I feel fine throughout the day as well.  It's just when I get into bed that I freeze. :(

I m 2 weeks and 2 days post op, and I'm always cold!!  my hands are always freezing and I always have to have a sweater with me.  I read that it was a side affect after surgery, and even a year out you may have this side affect.
