Started my pre-op liquid diet today...

Well, I started my liquids today. My surgeon's plan includes 80 g of protein & 64 oz of water, sugar-free jello, ice pops or water ice, broth, lactaid milk and allows for a cup of vegetable soup, fresh vegetables or fresh fruit. Needless to say, it was a difficult first day... I missed my diet pepsi. The worst part of my day was trying to drink my protein drink. I had Isopure bottles... OH MY GOODNESS! I couldn't even finish a sip! It was absolutely horrible! I had to try something different. I ended up drinking the chocolate protein shake from Vitamin Shoppe that is geared toward Bariatric patients. It was on my nut's list. I actually liked it. I had a cup of veggies for dinner. Hopefully, this will get easier by the day! Wish me luck! Lol.

Good luck!  I have not heard/read good things about isopure (aka isopuke).  If you want the fruit flavor and a palatable protein drink, try syntrax nectar. I also like premier protein for a ready-made.

Thank you!!! Yeah, it's absolutely disgusting! I will definitely try Nectar. I saw single servings of that on the Vitamin Shoppe's website.

They have sample sizes in stores too--you may not find all the flavors but it's a good intro to the brand!  Nectar and Chike are what I drink 95% of the time.

Thanks for the head's up. Chike? That's one that I'm not familiar with...

Chike is one of the protein coffees.  It IS caffeinated, so not everyone drinks it, and it has a few more carbs than some of the other powders (I think 5 per scoop, and one drink is two scoops.  so one serving is 10 carbs, 20 g protein). So obviously if your plan doesn't allow caffeine now or after surgery, skip it until you can have it.  If you are a coffee person, Syntrax (who I swear I don't work for) does make a cappuccino nectar that I believe is caffeine free.

I'm not allowed to have caffeine right now... I think I'm allowed caffeine post-op, but I'll double-check the plan. Lol. I'm not really a coffee person, but, I want to keep my options open. I'd like to try different things. Thanks again! Responses like this are making my process a little easier.

I couldn't stand isopure! The only way I could drink it was mixed with orange juice. Not planning on buying it again LOL. I have also heard great things about chike, they make a coffee flavored one I am dying to try. The brand I use is syntrax nectar. I like chocolate mouse and double stuffed cookie. I am also going to try the cappuccino flavor too. Good luck with your liquid diet! How long is it?

Lol. Thanks! I tried to mix the Isopure with everything! I just couldn't get it down. Nectar seems to be the one most people are recommending... I will definitely try it! I guess we just have to play around until we find what works best for us! Congrats on your weight loss! I'll be joining you on the loser's bench soon!
