PreOp weight loss fail

Just how many people here failed to lose and/or maintain the required weight loss before surgery. And if you failed did they go ahead with surgery of make you wait. I lost my required 11lbs but its up and down and every time I meet with the next person on the list it comes up again. They are going to check with the surgeon but he is out for the next week and a half.

I had to lose about 15 pounds preop and was down but not down far enough by my last checkup before surgery. Surgeon and nurse said i still had a week to lose and as long as i didnt gain id be alright. Ill be damned but i weighed in on surgery day 1 pound less than my "required" weight. So the moral is stay on plan and keep trying to the end. You might just surprise yourself!

How did you lose the weight?  Was it liquid?  Did you have a plan?  Are you eating a lot of salty items?  I gained a little before my surgery.  My surgeon wasn't too happy...I had just started taking a cardiac medication that causes weight gain.  I don't know if that was a factor.  He specifically mentioned cutting salt.

Are you still doing it?

Been visiting with old "friends"?  The foods you're going to be saying goodbye to?

My preop plan called for a more caloric version of my post wls plan. Basically 3 meals per day all low carb high protein (think atkins meals) and healthy snacks or we were allowed to replace a meal with a shake but never more than 1200 cals.

I think a part of my weight loss problems during this time was a twisted pelvis which the chiropractor fixed but the water weight from the inflammation didnt go down until after my last checkup before surgery. This i really think was the reason i lost 8 pounds in the one week before surgery but it all worked out in the end.

I find the centers that require you to lose X pounds before surgery interesting.  If we could do that why would we be their.  Mine just need to see if I could follow instructions and follow the plan.

My bariatric program was super strict regarding the weight loss before surgery.  If you gained, the surgery was cancelled. No excuses.  They were very upfront about it from the get go.  Everyone going through the program understood this going in, in fact we had to sign off on this as understanding what would happen if we didn't lose required amount or maintain our weight loss.  Our last official pre-op weigh in was the day before surgery.

What do you think if you lost, then gained some, but then lost the required amount by the last time you had to weigh in.  Do you think insurance would cancel your surgery?  There was a gain, but ultimately lost. Does that make sense?

Under our plan, we can have no gains during the supervised weight loss.  Each monthly weigh in must register lower than the previous until hitting the specific goal...ours required 10% of your weight.  Once reached, we could maintain until surgery or continue losing.  But if you gained, your surgery would be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. My surgeon is booked several months out, so if you lost your date, it could push you back 3-6 months before a slot opened up again.  Seriously, not worth it to me to not do whatever was needed to stay on task and risk not having surgery. But that is me....I am hard core.  I have stuck 100% on plan since starting my pre-op requirements.
