Struggling with protein shakes- any recommendations?
Before the surgery, I was pretty happy with the unjury shakes and now I can't stomach them. I have tried premier protein and those taste terrible to me- instantly gag. GNC total lean, EAS Advatedge are also some I've tried. Anything else you guys recommend? My doctor is hounding me to increase my protein (1 week out) but they just make me gag. I'm doing okay with water, crystal light, broth and lowercase zero- just the shakes. Thanks
I really like Optimum Nutrition Whey which I order from Amazon. I like the double chocolate flavor since it's chocolate, but not a super sweet chocolate. Yum.

I've had similar issues with gagging and/or vomiting from protein shakes. I don't have as many to pick from because I'm lactose intolerant and allergic to most food coloring dyes. I've found I can tolerate the "Oh Yeah" brand in the chocolate milkshake flavor. It is lactose-free, 32 g protein. I get it from Amazon. It's pricey, $33 per 12-pack.

I like Syntrax Nectar because it's more like juice than a shake. 1 scoop has 21g protein. My favorite flavor is Roadside Lemonade. Twisted Cherry is good, too, just a little strong so I mix it with the Roadside Lemonade.

+1 on Syntrax Nectar. I do the fruit flavors with water and the others with unsweetened almond milk - delish. Also Jay Robb brand vanilla and chocolate are very good.

Lots of good luck! My taste was altered after surgery also, so some of the shakes I liked before were not tasting the same (more like plastic), but that has since somewhat turned around. I prefer the Designer Whey protein powders mixed with non-fat Lactaid milk. I am now 6 months out, and have been adding non fat Greek yogurt and a small amount of fruit to them. The best flavors, for me, have been strawberry, vanilla, and double chocolate.
Matrix peanut butter from my bariatric pantry, choc peanut butter by body fortress, muscle milk, ensure & orange sherbet from Bariatric advantage are the protein shakes I go for post-op.

Pre op I tried Premier Protein and thought I would die if I had to drink those. After one week of clears, including syntrax nectars, unjury, and isopure (all totally disgusting to me and my new sleeve), Premier Protein RTD has been like manna from heaven. Good luck finding one that works for you! A lot of people rave about GNC AMP 60, but the calories are pretty high.
