Protein Basics/Supplimental Proteins

This is a good read concerning protein basics and the purpose of suppliments post Bariatric surgery.

In addition it explains the differences between quality proteins vs. the run of the mill stuff you might find in, for example a Walmart. Ie. Protein shots and some powders.

We tend to run across a lot of posts concerning protein and I want to stress it isn't just the protein, but the quality of the protein.

I would suggest you all take a look at the article and make sure you read the section called Supplimental Protein

I wish more people would read this...and understand it!  Check for the PDCAAS score on all protein powders!  And you'll find that most protein "shots" are complete and total crap.

Immediately post op, 100% whey protein isolate is the highest quality and most easily digested and usable form of protein we can take in.  Read the ingredients on those protein powder bottles.  If it says "concentrate" or "blend" it's not 100% whey protein isolate.

With protein shakes being our primary source of nutrition the first few months after surgery, it's vital that we not skimp or take shortcuts when purchasing these.

Thanks for the article, Chili!
