protein shakes and stalls

My NUT told me the same thing---switch from shakes to food. Said shakes have lots of additives, so better to have other protein sources. Really threw a wrench in my day.

I think most people have a stall at weeks 2-3.  I did.  It is just your body's way of saying let me adjust to this new lifestyle.  My surgeon and NUT wanted me to focus on food early on.  My plan calls for 3 meals of Protein rich foods and a protein shake only if necessary to get my protein level up to 60 grams.  Most days I succeed but it is good to use shakes as a back up plan.  I use My fitness Pal everyday to log my food and exercise.  I plan my menu first thing in the morning so I can adjust it to meet my protein requirements.   I don't have to think about food all day,  I just follow my menu.    Hope this helps.

Thank you! I am currently using mfp. Keep my cals between 550-600. Guess I'm just in a stall

I am 6 months post-op and still have an Unjury protein drink every morning for breakfast.  In this situation (as early out as you are) I would ignore my doctor's advice.  I think most surgeons and nutritionists recommend one protein drink per day for the first 6 months.  The first 2-3 months, there's no way I would have met my protein quota without the protein drink.  Stalls are normal.  I just got through a 1 month stall and it was grueling but thankfully the scale started moving again (down).  Even though the scale wasn't moving my clothes were hanging off of me so the inches were going down.  Don't be discouraged - work your plan and it will work for you.

Thanks everyone for your support, I am still doing one shake a day. I switched to the BPI powder that i got at Sams. It has a fat burning ingredient in it. dropped my cals down to 450, not getting but 50 gms of protein in but atleast the scale moved down 2 lbs. I will bump  up the protein on weekends.

50 grams of protein is not enough, 450 calories also seems extremely low.  Were those recommendations from your surgeon?

No he wants me to increase to 800. I did that and gained 2 pounds so I dropped it back down. I meet with my NUT at the end of the month and will see what she says
