Hey....my doc told me not to chew gum...he said chances are if I swallow it, it won't get stuck, but it could...he said over the years, he's seen it surgically removed a few times....(bet it was big globs of bubble gum) I chew it occasionally....but not often.  I just don't seem to have a problem swallowing it..... Good day here......laaaazy.  Had a facial yesterday....went for latte's with a friend....then we played golf with them and I cooked shrimp creole and made a dessert with mango sorbet and strawberries marinated in wine and Splenda and lime juice and cinnamon...........OH YUM. Wore me out.....thinking of going out to play a round of golf by myself...... Hope your day is going well........... Hugs Charlie

Grapes, ice cubes, and peas are digested or dissolved ... Gum does not.  Probably for most people, there is no problem, but it is a possibility.   Annette

I chew gum daily too!  I have swallowed it a few times, and once about a month out of surgery.  I have never had any problems.

I was also advised to NEVER chew gum after having my RNY because of problems that MIGHT occur.  That has been enough to keep me away from it and I was a HUGE chewer--lol.  Tell your friend GOOD LUCK!!!

It surprises me that anyone would swallow gum ... I think the last time I swallowed it I was perhaps 10 years old.  Ever since then, I've managed to chew gum and walk at the same time without any problems whatsoever.  LoL Annette

i ALSO HAVEN'T SWALLOWED GUM SINCE I WAS ABOUT 10YRS OLD.  BUT WHEN MY FRIEND CALLED ME UPSET I DIDN'T THINK TO MAKE HER FEEL BAD ABOUT IT AND ASK HER HOW SHE MANAGED TO DO THAT.  IT WAS AND ACCIDENT AND THATS ALL I NEEDED TO KNOW AND SHE WAS SCARED.  I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE TO ASK ABOUT THIS,  AND EVERYONE ELSE HAS BEEN SO HELPFUL. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE ADVISE!

I wasn't judging anyone ... Just found it curious that people still swallow their gum!  I used to do it on purpose when I was too lazy to spit it out or was caught chewing it in school.  LOL  Hope it all works out well for her! Annette
