I am almost 11 months post RNY and for the past several months have been experiencing the worst smelling gas ever.  This is gross but it smells like sour milk.  Sometimes I smell the odor without passing much gas at all. I know the smell is gas I guess since I am totally embarrassing myself I might as well add that when I have a bowel movement it smells exactly the same.   Any one else with the problem or have any suggestions.  It doesn't seem to matter what I eat it is always the same.

Talk to your doc about it, they may have best suggestions.  But for now, I would blame it on the dog or the kids - whomever is around.  I don't believe in who smelt it dealt it!!

Before I had surgery, I only knew one person who had it, my mother. After my RNY i have met many, and every single one of them have foul gas and stool after surgery. I am talking like something dead! I've noticed several times this is mentioned on this board, and some people always deny they have any problem with gross gas, but I think it is universal, unless they have very very short bypass, like maybe 25-45 cm bypassed, so they have little malabsorption. The problem is we have malabsorption of our food, and because it isn't digested as it used to be, it caused the awful smell of the gas and stool. My saying is 95% of RNY-DS post-ops have this smelly problem and the other 5% are lying about it! :)
