Amusement Parks and "Guests of Size"
Well, yesterday was opening day at Canobie Lake Park, which is the closest amusement park to us. We want many times last year and had an awesome time, and it is one of my favorite things to do. So, yesterday was such a beautiful day, and we went. It was awesome of course. They have a new ride, the "Extreme Frisbee." So, I got in line to be one of the first to ride it and there was a sign "To our guests of size - due to the restraints in the ride, many guests of size will not fit on this ride. This includes but is not limited to, guests over 230 pounds, waist larger than 40" chest larger that 48". Tester seats are located near the exit." Well, I did not want to try the tester seat. So, I went for it. Got in my seat and pulled down the restraint. We waited a minute and all the restraints were released. The operator came back and said that someone was too big. I was sure it was me. He went around and checked all the fat people. Guess what?? He did not even check mine, and the person who got kicked off the ride, in my opinion, looked smaller than me. So, now I feel confident enough to try any ride at any amusement park!!!

Carrie,
Congratulations!! I was wondering if Canobie Lake Park was still open. I was born and raised in northern NH and visited the park many times. We, my husband and almost 4 year old son, are going to NH for a visit at the beginning of June. One place I went so often as a kid was Story Land and we are going on June 8. I can't wait to get into the rides with my son and not worry as to whether or not I am going to fit!!

Diane,
Canobie Lake Park is still open, and never long lines, it is nice. But I have heard they are being bought by 6 Flags, so, you know, all that will change.
Story Land is great. My son and I have been. You will have an awesome time!
Enjoy your trip to NH!

Congatulations BUT I feel sorry for the person who was kicked off the ride. For the operater to to say "someone is too big" and then to "check" the fat people is embarrising for everyone who was checked. How did the peson handle it that had to leave. I do not think I will ever put my self in that position even when I weigh a lot less then I do now.
Glad you had a WONDERFUL day, I am soo happy SPRING is finally here:)
Yes, I agree, too, I definitely felt for the other person. The operator was nice, he came on and said "one of the restraints is not fitting properly," and then went around and checked, but, of course, he id not check every one, and it was pretty clear who he was checking. He was fine about it through, and you could tell everyone on the ride felt bad (and it is a big ride, probably 60 riders).

yes...CONGRATULATIONS!!! BUT...I do think the park should be contacted by somebody and they should have some training on how to handle the situation a little better....by no means should the operator have yelled out "somebody is too big"....again....CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU SWEETIE!!!
