Amusement Parks and "Guests of Size"
I think they handled it as well as they could. He said someone's restraint was not fitting properly, and since there were like 60 riders, it would be silly to check them all. No matter what they did, it was going to be completely obvious when someone was kicked off the ride. BUt, I will say everyone on the ride was really nice, and you could tell everyone felt bad for the guy.

Wow, I feel the pain of all the riders who were worried that it might be them that were to "big". I had gone on a ride (roaring rapids)when I was 20 years old with a boyfriend & the operator made us sit apart, we each had to sit alone with about 4 or 5 other couples sitting together. & I wasnt even 'that" big. However, the pain of that experience still haunts me today (I am 36 now) For 16 years I wouldnt fly. I still dont have the guts to go on a ride but I will soon. The title of my profile is "Angel's Journey to Disney World" I soooo badly want to ride the rides with my little girl. I will one day post a picture of me on "its a small world" with my daughter!
Me, too Angel.
When I was 17 I went on the pirate ship and the bar would not close and the operator made me cross my legs to close it, and I had not been to an amusement park since. That was so upsetting to me, because I always loved them so much.
That was my big goal in losing weight, to be able to enjoy amusement parks.
BTW, the "It's a Small World Ride," and most rides at Disney World, is huge. I think Disney is more friendly to people of all sizes. My aunt, at 5'2", 350 lbs, and a 60+" waist, lived near Disney and visited frequently, and was able to ride every ride.

Oh thank you soo much for telling me. I go to florida several times a year (I have a lot of family there) but I dont go near disney. My daughter is 4 & knows that when "mommy gets healthy we can go to disney" I am actually going in June for 2 weeks (I got penny fares!) so MAYBE I will try to cruise over to Mickey's!
Thanks again you made my day!
Definitely go Angel!!! I have not been for a ling time, but I definitely remember "It's a Small World" was one of my mom's favorites, and it is really just like a big boat with bench seating, you will have no problem at all!!
At 17, I was at least 250 lbs, and I went on all the rides, and did not even have to "suck in my gut" on any rides.
Also, I think a lot are coming around. The "Davinci's Dream" ride at Canobie (you know, the ride with the swings) last year had just the little basket seats. This year they added some new bigger solid plastic seats.

You should definitely try Disney World, Angel. I have been there a few times weighing over 300lbs and never had a problem. The only rides I would ever been concerned about would be some of the thrill rides and they have "test" seats available to try out in a very discreet location. The cast members are very helpful and sensitive. Give it a try! There is some good info at http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/ridsiz.htm. Of course, you won't be needing it much longer with the successes that you are having!! Colleen
Carrie,
I'm thrilled for you!!! Congrats!!
BUT... I am a "person of size" and I have experienced being kicked off a ride (while 50 people stare and wonder WHY I even bothered, and WHY I held up the ride to try)... Let me tell you there are very very few other humiliations that even come close to having your child SEE you kicked off a ride.
This was the "straw" for me that made my determination to lose weight... this happened to me 4 years ago, I had a 10 yr old son (on the ride), and 8 month old daughter waiting with family... and was smaller then than I am now... I feel for that person, it's a horror I would never want to endure again...
That night I got online and started researching "obesity" and found this site... I posted and (lovely soul that she is) Tooter replied and let me vent... I got through that night... and determined to change my life.
Here I am, 4 years later, finally postop, counting the pounds until summer... so I can get out there and RIDE TOO!

Kat,
I am not trying to downplay the feeling of the person who was kicked off. I felt really bad, and I know I am close to being there, I am just so thankful that I can go on the rides now. I would not have even tried 2 years ago; in fact, I would not have even gone to an amusement park, because I love them so much and it would've killed me to not be able to go.
That was what made me decide to have surgery. I was healthy and worked and took care of my home and kids, so life was "OK," but I just wanted more fun. I wanted to do things with my kids, other than watch them in the park, I wanted to wear designer clothes and ridiculously high heels. I wanted to put on make-up and do my hair and not have people think "I wonder whay she bothers, it doesn't help." I wanted to feel like a real person who deserved those things and, finally, I am starting to.
