Will Pepto Bismol help after a dumping episode
Help: Please Somebody: Stopped for brkfst at Mcdonalds ( never again I swear)
Bought a egg & cheese biscuit and did not eat the biscuit: about 20 minutes later
I dumped so bad: I feel so sick : Wondering if Pepto would help: I feel like I want to
be sick again but nothing will come up.
I know this will probably last a couple hours but GOD THIS IS AWFUL
Did you dump or throw up? They are different things. Dumping can be things like shaking, sweating, diarrhea, etc. Throwing up from a piece of stuck food can be pain behind the breastbone, the foamies which involves and overproduction of saliva and throwing/spitting up?
Eggs can be rough to eat for some early on. And bacon if it isn't chewed well enough can be a problem. My docs had me on pureed foods for 10 weeks post-op so be sure to chew everything really, really well into a fine paste.
If you get a piece of food stuck in your stoma (which often gets confused with dumping)... and can catch it early enough and can chew a few papaya enzyme tablets (drug stores, vitamin stores, etc)... that can help. The papaya can often help digest the food that is stuck. It has saved me many, many, many times in 2 years. If that doesn't help sometimes the only thing that can is getting the piece dislodged through throwing. Remember, sometimes after an episode like this the pouch can be sore for a day or two afterwards so you may want to stick to softer foods for a short while.
To my knowledge, there isn't any medicine that seems to help with dumping.
Feel better,
Kathy

Someone else posted about eggs. Hope others read this. Eggs are evil, even for me as far out as I am.
By the way, no pepto nor anything else will help with dumping. Dumping is the sudden and over release of insoline in the intestines to digest sugars and sometimes fats. It causes a neruological response (sorry about the spelling) You can throw up, but that is rare. It is sweats, shaking, tired and just yuck feeling, no pain, unless you get the runs.
Now, liquids will be needed now anyway. Anytime something gets stuck or makes you throw up, the stomach is irritated and will hurt and throw up with most foods for a few days unless you give it a rest. So liquids for 24 hours will help this.
There are foods at fast foods that are great to eat, you just need to research. I still have not had McyDs, too much fat in everything they cook, which will cause dumping by the way. But it sounds like you either had something stuck or reacted bad to fats.

I'm holdin' ya to it. One of my 'Life Rules' after gastric bypass is NO Fast food. Its one of the rules I don't break. Its not worth it. It is so loaded with fat and calories......AND its part of my old lifestyle. A huge major part. So I just don't do it. I have lived over 5 years without it. Believe me, it can be done. I can still wear my size 8/10s.........and I attribute a LARGE part of that to my 'Life Rules'.
I'm not perfect.....(read yesterday's Eatin' Good in the Neighborhood thread)........but thats one of the things I just don't do. All of my family, and friends respect that part of my lifestyle and don't insist on McDonald's or KFC.
Lynda and I once went to Busch Gardens, and since she doesn't believe Dunkin Donuts is fast food, thats where we wound up for breakfast. I ordered an egg and sausage 'breakfast sandwich'....I tried to eat the insides....but after about 2 bites, I could feel my little tummy rebel. I knew that if I continued, I'd be puking and miserable....so I put it back in the bag and threw it away. Now I carry a protein bar in my bag, just in case. If you go to a restaurant.....at least there you have choices. Maybe not the best choices...but at least not fast food grease ball choices.
Lynda can handle the fast food.....I simply cannot.
This is a good time to make some Life Rules to keep you on track.
Hope you are better by now.............
nonononononononono......no!
