kkanne, Do you use a cpap machine? If so, then you are in the same class as our original poster.  Just because she needs a cpap, does not mean that she is unsafe in driving.  I needed a cpap for a while, but never knew it, until I had to do a sleep study for my WLS.........and, I have never had an accident while driving.......and I've even driven semi-trucks cross country for a living.  That was kinda mean to say what you did, don't you think?  Just my 2 cents on how your post came across to me..........

Just because someone with sleep apnea has not YET fallen asleep while driving does not mean it isn't more likely to happen to that person than to someone without sleep apnea.  (My grandfather drove drunk all the time and never killed anyone.  Didn't mean he was as safe as the sober drivers.) I don't think it was "mean."  I, too, got the impression that she wanted a better result than she might get without doing something special...AND that she is a school bus driver. Sue

BAD NEWS...not ALL sleep apnea is obesity related.  Your extra weight may have just made worse a condition that might have existed even if you hadn't been heavy.  And that means that even if you get SKINNY, you may still need breathing help.  HOWEVER, because you are a school bus driver, this isn't just about you.  AND, many of the new machines keep records which will reflect compliance--or non-compliance.  (Big Brother IS watching.) If the pressure is too strong, it needs to be reset.  Whether I actually NEED a machine now is subject to debate.  I may or may not (based on the last sleep study) have apnea...however I still apparently awaken myself, so it's a good idea.  But my setting is now at 5 instead of 18.  If you get the right setting, it will be a lot easier to use. (BTW, I hate my "wonderful" new Swift headgear because no matter which way I turn, it's in the way...and have another one on the way.) Sue

In any group of a hundred people, there are probably 2 or 3 sociopaths.  In a group of a thousand, more like 20-30.  They function very well in "affinity groups," where people have things in common and tend to trust strangers.  I am NOT saying not to trust anyone.  I AM saying that there are probably two dozen sociopaths hanging out here and looking for victims.  Most are NOT serial killers.

Barb passing this third sleep study is the only way you will truly know if you no longer has OSA.  Even if you have a mild case doesn't mean you can't fall asleep at the wheel.  I'm sure you would agree that it's better safe than sorry. Is the problem solely with the mask?  I went through 6 masks before really finding one I could sleep well with.  It's worth trying a new mask, you never know when you'll hit the "perfect" one for you. How did you know you only need 12 or 7 pressure?  Was that on your report?  It makes no sense why your dr. would put you on 2 to 3 pressure points higher than what the test would say is your 90% pressure. I'm not sure if you know this, but some people do indeed need a CPAP at a low pressure of 5 or even 6.   I do hope yours is just OSA (obstructive due to weight) and now that you've lost 53 lbs the condition is gone.  If not, it's best to know now so you can be the healthiest you you can be. Melinda p.s.  If you want help with masks, please PM me.  Maybe we can go over the problems you're having and masks you've tried and see if another one might work better.

Melinda, yes the lady at lincare people who supply the cpap machine read the report to me..both reports.. she even told me the results of the variable machine I had twice.. first report said 12 and he put me at 14, 2nd report was for 8 he put me at 11.. I just dont think he likes me and going to get second opinion after my 3rd study. She told me her self she doesnt understand and she spoke with him and he said put on varitable again. thats all he ever says to her. I think the doctor was mad at me because I m having such a hard time and told him i am sleeping less than i was before. so i think it is just a pay back..  the lady at lincare agrees with me,, she even told me with test results from the varitable machine says i dont need the machine anymore..  if i really need the machine it is one thing but from get go she told me i really didnt need it..and so did the doctor until read the report i was a bus driver.  but the doctor has the right to pull my license if i dont do it..I love my job and will do as doctor say.. I have tried the full face mask, nasal mask, and the nose mask. that is the only three mask lincare has.. How do I pm you do you have yahoo messenger or window live messenger..  Yahoo of mine is-  [email protected] Window live is- [email protected] Thank you for your  help Barb
