Are you serious???--dissolvable stitches??
Did you have open surgery or laparascopic????
With any surgery, they do not use gauze during the procedure....
with a laparascopic surgery, they use small pieces of cotton on sticks that are attached and someone is responsible for making sure they are all out...
in an open surgery, they could use what is called a lap sponge, but again someone is responsible for keeping a count and verifying they are out, a surgery cannot be complete until all "counts" are correct and verified by 2 people.
A lot of surgeons use a non dyed suture, to close the layer below the skin, and sometimes they do come out.
