skin-tags: anyone have them go away after WLS?

Unfortunately, I have a lot of skin tags (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_tag). My doctor has told me that they are likely as a result of being over-weight. Since I'm planning to get WLS, I'm curious if anyone else who has skin tags saw any reduction in them after WLS. I'd like to hope so, because I despise going to the doctor once a year to get them removed... usually without any local anesthesia!

Hi, The skin tags happen from friction of the skin.  As you know they form where there are folds of the skin.  They do not go away on their own.  The only way you can get rid of them is by getting a skin doctor  to cut them off.  May I suggest you wait until you are at goal and then have them all removed at the same time.  Once you lose the weight you will not have them anymore.  I have not had any since losing my weight. Good luck to you! Take care, Kathy

actually, mine weren't in skin folds. they were just in between my breasts on that flat part. (my boobs have never been big, even when i was heavy.) and yeah actually, they ARE shrinking. idk that they'll go away on their own but they HAVE shrunk considerably. instead of being so rough in between there it's now relatively smooth. i was told that mine were caused by my pcos which is apparently improving with the weight loss. (SOME aspects of it anyway, lols!) i was under the impression that it was a hormone thing.

I removed mine myself. I had one under each arm. I read somewhere if you tie them off with thread (really tight) they swell up turn purple and fall off in a few days. The first time I did it, it took longer because I did not tie it tight enough. The second time it took 2 days. Good luck! Hugs, Chris

I have found a couple new small ones, probably due to skin moving more since my weight loss.  I'm going to visit the dermatologist in the Spring.  I have had them most of my adult life...lucky me!

I also just remove them myself.  Right after surgery, I seemed to get a bunch more.  Now I don't have many at all. Linda

I had 'em... the only way they went away is (sorry) snip-snip.  Not too bad, though - it was after my WLS.    They haven't grown back, though - maybe that is because of the weight reduction? Kitty

I had several on my neck prior to WLS.  While I still have a few, they are MUCH better and some of them have gone completely away. Mary
