Slim Fast...
Since revamping my diet a few weeks ago, I started adding a High Protein Slim Fast shake once a day in place of a meal. Normally I have it at breakfast, as I'm not a huge breakfast fan anyhow. I was surprised how filling it was and really kept my hunger at bay, for yes, the 4 hours they stated. I'm the type who gets hungry every 3 hours all day long, it seems.
Anyhow, I'm back at Walmart yesterday, grabbing another pack of this stuff when I see something I hadn't seen before, Slim Fast "Low Carb" Shakes. Since I'm cutting carbs, I decide to take a looksie at the nutritional label. It was SOO weird, because the Low Carb not only had MORE protein than the SF High Protein shake (20 grams of protein versus 15 grams), but less sugar (1g versus 6g) and tons less carbs, with the High Protein coming in at 26 (!) carbs per shake (18 net) and the low carb version at 6 grams. (Net carbs is 2g, because of fiber) The only thing the Low Carb had that was higher than the High Protein was the fat content, but that was only 1 gram more.
So, why was I drinking the High Protein one?? I know more protein is good, but now I was having chicken/turkey on a daily basis, along with good veggies and plenty of eggs. I was thinking maybe the High Protein version was better for those people who were wanting to add more muscle and not just about losing weight, what do you think about this?
Is anyone else here using Slim Fast products? I'm not sure if this Low Carb SF is new or not, as I just started it recently. They also have a line of the High Protein bars, but didn't see any low carb bars.
Just trying to make sure I get in all my protein, but at the same time, watch those extra carbs that seem to stall me out.
Thanks!

Hi CJBird,
I also drink the Low Carb Diet Slim Fast. I love it and also wonder why it has more protein than the high protein. I have been checking weekly for a Low Carb bar as well but have yet to see them. I'm super sensative to sugar, can't tolerate more than 8 grams per serving so almost all of the slim fast bars are out of the question, as are many other brands. I do use Pure Protein bars with only 6 grams of sugar.
Check your Sunday paper for coupons for the slim fast, in the past 2 weeks I have found a coupon for $1.25 off the drinks.
Enjoy!
Yep, the low carb ones are the way to go.
After the last price hike though I started buying the protien powder & making my own.

Thanks so much all! I didn't have my glasses with me and thought I was seeing things! It was confusing, but when I got home, I did buy the powder in the High Protein, they didn't have the Low Carb except in the canned shakes and put on my glasses and really checked things out, lol!
I agree, the price isn't nice at all. The powder is more economical, but I want it in the Low Carb, does it come that way? It was already slim pickings on the powder in the High Protein also, only 2 on the shelf, sheesh. They had tons of regular SF Optima shakes, but I'm not interested in those.
Thanks for the coupon info also, I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for that! Let me know if you ever find the low carb version in bars also. I know Walmarts vary from place to place, but I have yet to find any store that carries SF cheaper than them.
Whew, glad I'm not crazy, lol! Ok, maybe a little crazy, but not about SF.

Oops, forgot to post this link. It's the website for Slim Fast and if you sign up you can get coupons and other stuff via email. I checked off the box saying I was most interested in their "low carb" products and hope to stay updated on the latest products.
You can also participate in their diet program, they offer tips about what to eat, exercising, loads of other stuff.
Thanks!
