DEALING WITH STRESS BUT NOT EATING OR SMOKING
Therapy with a therapist you actually feel comfortable with is what absolutely changed my life (stress, anxiety and thinking wise) this is the best, most effective and longest lasting gift you can give yourself.
Another is YOGA
Another, herbal medication

It's really hard to do right now especially if you just stopped smoking as well. Here are some things I do to help my stress.
Reading
Prayer/Meditation
Exercise
Housework
Walking
Talking to a friend
Deep breathing
You may also want to see a therapist to help you sort through the stress eating and why you stress eat. He/she may have some better suggestions. Although I will admit that some days, I stress eat still.
Talking with someone you trust can help. You may have to resort to a paid therapist, but they have helped many. Many years ago I had to speak with one for a few weeks to overcome a problem I was having.

I find that just keeping busy doing an activity I enjoy helps with the stress in my life and I get so busy with these activities that I sometimes forget to eat!! I took up ceramics a couple of years ago. My husband also enjoys doing ceramics and helps him as well to relax. I also sew and crochet to keep my mind occupied.. also I find that a long walk outdoors helps keep me away from the fridge and food. Now that the weather is nicer I will be taking more walks.. My surgeon wants me to get used to going for walks before my RnY.
And as a previous poster said. sex is a great stress reliever if you have a special someone in your life.. she wasn't too far off with that comment but I would avoid alcohol..lol

pssh.. well i am not cleared for exercise yet and I am still on liquids... So for me dealing with stress is just lying in bed and crying. I HATE crying, but I have always been a stress smoker, eater, and *TMI* I vomit when I get reeeeaaaalllly stressed. none of which are good So now I cry, or sleep. I know there are better ways to handle it like finding someone to talk to or what not. Some people meditate. I will play with my dogs too because they are so goofy and they make me laugh. It all just depends on figuring out what works for you!
Yoga, exercise, therapy......it's taken all three to get me through the roughest year of my life - lost my mom in November, lost my sister two weeks ago - marriage tanking - and in spite of it all I'm doing well. It can be done. Susan
