I think at 5 weeks you should follow for nuts orders. I am 9 months out and do eat small amouts of carbs. I will some times have a half of a whole wheat english muffin. Last night we had hamburgers and instead of a bun I had a whole wheat pita, I didnt eat all the pita, maybe half. I know my nuts does want us to incoperate some carbs into our diet. And in reading posts here you will see both sides, some people choose a lifestyle of no carbs and some choose a lifestyle with carbs. But it really is important to follow you nuts diet plan and ask alot of questions. Lynn

From my perspective the issue isn't whether you ate carbs or not (english muffins are classified as refined carbs - so they should be limited if you have a lot of weight you want to lose)....it's that you ate twice the portion that was recommended for your stage....that is something to pay attention to. The stages and limits on portions are in place for a reason - so listen to those you have to guide you. Susan

Whether it's carbs or not, don't eat more than recommended at this point.  Your nerve endings are still healing and may not be able to send that "full" signal to your brain soon enough to avoid over-filling your pouch.  Right now, listen to your nut, not your gut.

I am two months out and for breakfast I had a light whole grain english muffin 2tbs of simply jiff on it and got in 14 grams of protein. I had my surgery for Diabetes control and not weight loss per se so I eat a balanced normal diet in limited portions. My PCP would freak out on me if I limited my Calories to under 1200 a day.      For me as I also have Lupus and MS and can always get my diabetes back nutrition is more the goal then the very low calories I read so many people on here follow. But now if your NUY said only half of a half why would it matter what we say you are paying people for their opinion. You don't want to get sick ...to me it goes back to when we were little kids and Mom would say if"gina jumped off a bridge would you do it tooo"

At 5 weeks out your surgery isn't completely healed yet and the nerves that were cut aren't sending signals to the brain of full, empty or overfull. Be very careful you don't overfill your new pouch and tear healing sutures or suture line. Just because you can doesn't mean you should - learning how to eat in the first 6-12 months is what this surgery is all about. Instead of taking up room in your pouch with carbs/bread that isn't nutritionally balanced, try protein instead. You need more of it and you don't want to stretch your pouch out this soon anyway with breads that expand and fill the pouch. Most find a protein forward diet for each meal is best in the first few months, when you get more room later, you can add in carbs, and other food groups.

At my 2 weeks post-op, I was told I could have half of a english muffin - whole wheat only. I could put cream cheese, cottage cheese or peanut butter on it. Or use no or low sugar jelly. I could barely fini**** Now, I can fini**** but feel very full after. I don't have them too often. Just be sure you watch your sugar intake, but otherwise, you should be fine.

Wondering if you're feeling normal?? I blog about everything!! Check my page out for more!
