Viactiv chews VS Calcium citrate

even if she was nasty she was right. our bodies cant absorb calcium carbonate. its much better to take the calcium citrate. i use citracal petites. im about 5 months out and i have no problem swallowing them. you should make the change now before you have any blood tests start coming back in a bad way. good luck.
Im very curious about the responses to this situation. I started with taking tums, but switched to calcium citrate after reading several threads about this. Ive been taking the citrate for about a month, but it made me HORRIBLY constipated...I was up to taking 3 stool softeners a day, and it wasnt even remotely helping me "go". I ended up having to take 3 doses of MOM to get "going" again. Yesterday and today, Ive returned to normal. Likewise, my levels have all been fine...but I worry about whether Ill develop bone or teeth problems from taking the carbonate. Oh the choices....
HELLO KITTYKITT54 I REMEBER READING IN A BOOK THE CALCIUM CITRATE ABSORBS FASTER IN YOUR SYSTEM .I ALSO ASKED MY DRUG STORE WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS BETWEEN THE TWO AND HE SAID THE SAME THING ITS HOW THEY ABSORB I WAS LOW ON VITAMIN D AND WAS TOLD BY MY FAMILY DR TO TAKE 2 CALICUM 600 WITH 400 VITAMIN D AND ITS BEEN FINE SINCE. MY SURGERY IS MAY 6 AND THE FEED BACK YOU GET WILL BE HELP -FUL IF ITS LOW AGAIN .SOME PEOPLE DON'T THINK BEFORE THEY ANSWER SOMETIMES
I was told two weeks ago by my surgeon that the difference between citrate and carbonate is citrate is easier for our bodies to digest and absorb, but if you choose to take a carbonate be sure to take it with a meal for better absorption. I always take my viactiv chew right after a meal and I have had no problems at all. I take 2-3 a day.
