Yep, Citracal is Calcium Citrate. Most other calcium supplements on the market are Calcium Carbonate.

By taking a carbonate now, no you won't have any issues because your body has stored calcium, what you need now is the calcium to be replenished.  In about 1-5 years you will undoubtedly notice the difference...  Many surgeons put their patients on TUMS within the first couple months, that is to also help with the acids in our stomach.. Then they are put on citrate.. Remember your calcium citrate needs to be either chewable, liquid , or powder since we don't have the stomach acids in which to break down the pills.. Very important... You also need Vit D3.. An excellent choice on the market is UPCal D.. Powder, 500 mg per serving with 250 IU of D3..  Even folks that are not WLS need to be taking Citrate.. An easy way to remember the two CarBONEate = bones not easy to digest CiTRATE = Citrus, good for us.. Sorry the lady was kinda ugly to you, but she really wants you to take the proper stuff, maybe she seemed rough because you thought you were taking the right supplement... Hopefully this will help you.. Huggs Debbiie

Also, if you look at the number one ingredient in Viactiv chews, it is corn syrup.  Not good for you!

She was right :(  However, I take the Viactiv multi vitamin chews for my multi-vitamin needs, and calcium citrate (citracal) for my calcium.  The Viactiv multi-vitamin also contains calcium carbonate but I figure if I'm not able to absorb the calcium carbonate anyway, I'm not going to overdo it by also taking the calcium citrate separately.  The Viactiv multi vitamins are tasty and it's like a treat to me.  If you're using the Viactiv because you like the way they taste, maybe you should take the multi-vitamin and use the Citracal for your calcium.  Just a thought, that's what I do because I like the way the Viactiv tastes.

Have you tried the chocolate cherry flavour multis?  Yummy.  I take the viactiv multi and the centrum multis and my left over citrical cream bites, yes I bought a ton before they were discontinued.  I like my vitamins to taste good it makes it easier for you to take them.  I noticed the Viactiv multi has no iron, thats why I still take my Centrum for the iron.  Its all so confusing sometimes. I didn't know they were discontinuing the citracal creamy bites, so the very few I have left I'm rationing like it's WWII!!! LOL  I'm so upset they aren't going to make them anymore
