Once you're a little further along (listen to me, like i'm a veteran @ 4 mos out...haha), you will be able to eat *real* food. And since you love to cook that's great!! You'll need some skills and creativity,  but you should be able to make a WLS friendly version of "just" about anything you desire.  Just stay away from things high in sugars, simple carbs and saturated fats and you should be fine.  Craving Nacho's?? Grab a couple (as in 2...lol) Baked Tostitos and load em up with a bunch of FF refried beans, a little reduced fat shredded cheese, microwave and then top with some lettuce/tomato, and a dab of salsa and reduced fat sour cream....voila!

You know I was exactly the same as you 4 months ago. I was watching commercials drooling at the food wishing I could have a taste. It was sad..lol. Let me tell you, you WILL get through this. The food is a mental thing that your mind craves. It's also the reason you became overweight. So that arbys and burgerking is your enemy! lol...just keep telling yourself that. And hey...you can eat again and it won't be long. Just being 4 months out I can eat pretty much anything (except bread I have to toast it to eat it)..but i can eat pretty much anything else with no problems....and I'm down about 90 lbs in 4 months.....so something is going right! Stay positive and focus on your health, do what your doctors say and enjoy your new thin self that is to come. Don't let the nasty greasy food ruin your mindframe. :) Hope that helps some....I know I needed to hear that during my early preop weeks...

Just to repeat all the other posts, I too felt that way.  I'll be 11 weeks out tomorrow and have lost 50 pounds.  I was off work for four weeks during recovery and I swear everything on TV was about food.  For some reason I was obsessed with the Food Network Channel and my husband asked me why I was torturing myself.  Even at 11 weeks out, there isn't much that I haven't tried eating.  There is some trial and error and I have thrown up  from eating something that I shouldn't have.  But it's a learning process.   Hang in there and just remember, it does get easier.   Becky
