Freud's painting of an obese nude lady sold today for $33.6 million. Why have I never taken nudes of myself? I wouldn't need insurance for weight loss surgery. Karen

MMMMMM I think I could do that for 33.6 million dollars.  You are right about not needing insurance.  :)

I have a nudie of me as a fat little baby. Maybe I could make my fortune too?

I wonder if the painter will give the model a bonus from the sale? Linda

********** Hmmmm Me thinks da price has to do with da name... Freud. LOL Years ago there were calendars featuring nude obese girls doing office work.... filing, phones, copy machines... I didn't find it offensive yet it was somewhat degrading...

My reaction to this painting is that its disgusting. The attitudes of obesity over the years have certainly changed. If ever you have visited the Uffizi in Florence and other museums, their full of them. I never liked these fat paintings. My opinion its some perverted artist living out his fantasies. Jan

Museums are full or portraits and statues of robust young women because that used to be the ideal of feminine beauty.  Back in the old days, skinny women were thought of as sickly -- unlikely to be able to bear children.  A corpulent woman was seen as well-fed, probably not poor, and had some good color to her cheeks.  It's only in this day and age that skinny has become the ideal of beauty. Yeah, you got that right.  Maybe it all started with Twiggy??  But, those really obese females in the paintings, it just gets me in the gut.  I love the portrait of Queen Vic.  Now, there was a portly woman. Of course, I never saw what was under the dress.  Those tie-up girdles hid alot.  Jan
