Ladies, can any of you recommend or let me know what birth control you are taking and if you have experienced any side effects? I am looking into a new OBGYN because mine has retired, so in the mean time I can't get any birth control from her. I called my PCP to see if he could just write me a prescription but he wants to see me in his office which makes no since to me because I will have to pay $35.00. I asked the nurse who answered the phone why I needed to go in and she says "Well it's required that the doctor see you if you are wanting any type of prescription" and I am thinking to myself...geez I just want birth control not morphine. Did any of you get your birth control from your surgeon? Your feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hormones from BCP's and I don't get along, so I have a Paragard IUD (or IUC as they are not calling them).  I like it because I don't have to do anything with it. Being on the post-op pregnancy board, I've seen some issues with BCPs postop.  Now, there is a huge debate, so expect to see some of that here.  Some think they don't get absorbed (including some surgeons), some feel they are fine.  Whatever method you go with, be sure you use it perfectly for 18 months as we are most fertile right after surgery. And yes, there are a number of women that get pregnant early out because their BC failed them.

Probably the reason your pcp wants to see you is to make sure you arent already pregnant. It is standard procedure. It would be harmful to implement some forms of birth control if you were already pregnant. They cant just take your word that you are not. My doctor doesn't prescribe anything for me without seeing him unless I have been in recently, as within a couple of weeks. It is for your protection as well as his. Karen

Ive been on depo-provera, lo-ogestrel, lo ovoral and am currently on seasonique... all have been find except the lo-ovoral (generic for ortho-lo).. had a lot of spotting/cramping on it.  Drs cant just write prescriptions without seeing patients - even if its for birth control. They need to make sure you have a current pap and do a pregnancy test before prescribing... thats why the OB gives you a 1 year script and you go back :-)

I am taking tri-sprintec right now. It works ok as long as I take it the same time everyday. My ob-gyn and I talked and he is going to put in the Mirena later this month while im on my period. They say it works better for women who have had WLS. Plus it last 5 yrs and you can have it taken out sooner if you want to try and get pregnant.
